Last time I got targeted by a spammer it wasn't too bad never went over 1000 fake bounces, real bounces, challenge response messages, anti-spam gateway rejects and other garbage per day.

The spammer was well hidden but I had a grand time making the idiots that dumped their trash in MY inbox very unhappy.

Stan and Ikeb

Although I think 'forgery' would imply maliscious intent, I do see both of your points and apllaud you both for sticking it out and 'explaining once again' Smile as this does, by your reactions, seem to be something that comes up regularly. Wink

I will look forward to FireTrust taking the credit in their marketing when they 'pioneer' the removal of the bounce feature ... sometime - in - the - future ...

No malicious intent is required, merely the action of sending an e-mail message with an address you know not to be your own, either by hand crafting it or using a program to do the same.

It used to be funny, mom got a n e-mail commendation to pass on to me from President Regan, she was really ticked when I came clean and told her I faked it. Sent her another from God telling her to let up on me, oops - bad idea, that was the last time I intentionally faked an address outside my own network!!!

I'd say it is probably one of the biggest reasons that mailwasher isn't given a lot more recommendations by oldtimers, that has to hurt the bottom line.

If you'd like some more late night reading Google has 43K hits on this search:

Out of the hundreds of anti-spam products available, some products that feature bounce capability. Maybe FireTrust could be a pioneer for that subset. Rolling Eyes

Anyway, Stan's google link had me looking for our What is Wrong With Bouncing Spam
article. Not to be found but reading it again, the bottom link led me to Tembow's post of a statement approved by Nick admitting that the bounce is antiquated ... almost a year ago now. Confused

Wow, that is a pretty poor track record - one whole year and still counting ... they could just edit the recommendations for usage and program features/benefits and they would be ok ... wow
