Hi,
I am getting an warning that I don't have enough room on my hard drive. It says I have 41MB of 2GB. When I go to clean it, it doesn't show anything to clen up. How can I clean my hard drive without loosing everything?

I just posted on the FavForums/operating systems and was told to ask about my problem here. Here is my first post:

Hi,
I am having a problem with my machine. I am running windows 98se on a HP Pavillion 6636.
Lately I have been having toubles with my maching not wanting to start up. It cannot find the Operating System at start up. So far I have been able to find ways to get it to load up, but very concerned that it is going to die on me and not ever start again. I have also been receiving popups telling me that my Hard Drive is full and that it needs to be cleaned up. I go to clean it up and there isn't much of anything to clean. I don't know how to clean it other than using the clean-up tool that it takes me to.

On a regular basis I use:
Avast anti-virus
ScanGuard
CCleaner
RegSeeker
CWShredder
Ad-Aware

Also I use Trend Micro's Housecall online scan, but the last few times I have tried to scan it seems to get hung up on the "testing platform and browser" section....

ANY SUGGESTIONS? Smile

Teresa

You can try to remove/delete non-essential files like browser cache, tif, temp, etc with software specially designed for that purpose like CCleaner or CleanUp!. With the minimal amount of free space that you have, you might not be able to install new software until you free up some space manually. Do not use any registry cleaning features of these or any other programs unless you know what you are doing. You might also check your hard drive for large log files created by various programs that you might not need.

You should also consider moving data files, especially large multimedia files (video, audio) to removable media.

After removing non-essential files, if you still don't have sufficient disk space, you're going to have to make some hard decisions as to whether you are going to uninstall programs, add diskspace, upgrade to a new computer, etc.

That is often an indication of imminent hard drive failure. You should immediately make sure that you have current backups of all essential files.

I do have CCleaner and use it regularly.

I don't exactly know how to do this...is there a program that will do it?

Thanks, Teresa

Put an external USB hard drive to work and copy some of your bigger folders to it.
