I've been trying out Antivir PE Classic for about a week or so and thought it had "Incremental VDF Updates" but mine seems to only update once a day. Am I missunderstanding something?

Long ago (read the 'sticky' above) an Update of sigs was all of them, every time.
Incremental just means that there are now four levels of 'VDF' files plus a Hueristic 'engine' instead of all-in-one file of ten MB or more.
Every few weekday working hours, 3vdf is updated and it is just 10-100Kb, every few days 2vdf is released and it might be 3-800KB, every few weeks, 1vdf may be a MB or more and once a year, a 0vdf of 9MB or so.
They also periodicaly release new "engine" Updates, which are for the Hueristicsand they can be 400+Kb.
http://www.avira.com/en/threats/section/vdfhistory/index.html
Above site will show you eight updates released between 05:30-20:30 GMT yesterday. Classic's default schedule is to Update once a day automatic on network and once for each dialed connection on a dialup modem setup.
If you are on a constant connection, you may want to open your Schedule Page and uncheck (don't edit or delete them) and then create as many "new jobs" as you want for updates as often as you would like, bear in mind the time period that they are released. AVIRA Servers are located in GMT+1 and USA is GMT-5 in East, up to GMT-8 hours in the West, to convert GMT to local time. Remember to check your new jobs.
Any change (or even a peek) at Scheduler will disable it until a re-boot. You can Start Update anytime from the Tray icon's right-click menu.
There will likely be a few times a year when, with so many Classic users to update and they put out a large Update, that their Servers get clogged and may delay your Updates while waiting to connect to one of eight servers.

Ahhhhh, thanks for the explanation. I was thinking "Incremental" ment updating small updates multiple times a day. I'm just fine with one update a day so the default setup is ok for me.
Just wish I could disable the notifier.

Avnotify.exe is quite easy to disable, exact method varies with your Operating System.
For WinXP-Pro or Win2003, it is best disabled by this security setting:
| Quote: | | control panel-> administrative tools-> local security policy->software restriction policies->additional rules->new path rule-> choose the path of avnotify.exe (default is C:\Program Files\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avnotify.exe) and the security level (disallowed). |
For Win2K: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=323525
For XP-Home (done in the Safe 'Administrator' Mode) see this Wilders Security post:
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=817473&postcount=60
I enjoy seeing it on my Win98 System (not used that often) but WebWasher offers to block it.
Some avnotify's are better than others, here was last years best:
http://notifier.antivir-pe.de/en/notifier50_2_en.html
And this was best so far this year:
http://notifier.antivir-pe.de/en/notifier04_1_en.html
Be aware that Avnotify.exe is also used by AntiVir to power the 'Virus Information' icon on your Guard and you will be disabling that function as well.

After disabling the AVNOTIFY nag-screen using NTFS execution permissions, I am now seeing these errors after updating. Is this normal?
