|
|
Why is it that after ver. 4.3.268, every other update Sunbelt got out to the light of day has been a catastrofe after another???
I mena every one is having some kind of trouble with every new release and, don't get me wrong, I like the firewall and trust my computer with it, BUT every other software making company are working there as...s off to try and give its customers the best software possible, EVEN THOSE WHO DON'T CHARGE FOR IT!!!!! so........ what are whe getting from Sunbelt that is so worth our money when we are using a version of software that has been arround for almos TWO YEARS without a decent update????
Doesn't anyone at Sunbel see that threats have evloved A LOT during that period of time and that there firewall (which is no FREE btw) is getting VEEERY OLD ??
And Thus the question???? WHERE IS THAT MUCH NEEDED REAL AND WORKING UPDATE OF THE FIREWALL WHE AL PAY FOR???????????

I was watching my grass grow today. Quite exciting! Anyway, I have this horrible feeling that this firewall has gone the way of the dodo.

Hummm, I cannot find that info on the Sunbelt website. The only indication is
"We plan on releasing a Vista compatible version in the near future."
I get the feeling that Sunbelt Personal Firewall is well past its Use-by-Date. It is now heavily discounted, maybe to milk the market as much as possible before it fades away.

Here's the whole paragraph:
"30-day money-back guarantee
Compatible with: Windows 2000, Windows XP (All), Vista 32 support for SPF is coming in September 2007. This offer includes one year of upgrades, updates, new definitions and tech support by phone, from real people based in the U.S. You can add additional years of protection for only $9.98 each. Below is the comparison of the "free" vs. the "full" mode. Believe us, with the crime rates on the Internet skyrocketing, you really want to get the full version of SPF."
It's at the bottom of this page: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Home-Home-Office/Sunbelt-Personal-Firewall/

Thanks, I see it now. Don't really believe it do you ? With no real update to the Firewall for about 18 mths I am getting worried about the quality of Sunbelt's other products such as CounterSpy. Spyware is getting very clever at beating the anti-spyware programs. I know this is a SPF forum but does anyone share my concerns ? & is there a CounterSpy forum ?

Extract from Latest CounterSpy News Letter 05 Sep ....
Editors Note: We expect SPF (Sunbelt Personal Firewall) out late this month or early October for Vista.
release date seems to be slipping a little.

I think I'm going to cut my losses with sunbelt. Their statements are empty and they have condemned a once great firewall.
I haven't tried very many of the other software firewalls out there, so I'm not sure what's good or not. I have read a number of reviews and many of them are dated. Some even go as far to say Sunbelt Firewall is great, which frightens me, as I know this to be false, based on my own experiences.
If anyone has any suggestions or can point me to some valid information, forum, review, etc, it would be much appreciated.

Folks: The Sunbelt Personal Firewall is a more stable, more robust firewall today than it ever was before.
Numerous enhancements have gone into this product. While you haven't seen any cosmetic improvements, there have been vast optimizations underneath the hood.
Vista? Yes, it's really tough. Really. But we're almost there.
In the future, if you're not happy with the product, feel free to ping me directly.

OK, well, first of all, If you are who you say you are, then Hello, and thank you for buying the firewall from Kerio and not letting it go down the drain.
Now, you say that if we are not happy with the product we can feel free to ping you directly, so, I don't know how to say this without saying it straight forward but, I did ping you directli on "Tue Jul 17, 2007 5:07 am" and wrote this to you:
{{ "HI, I'm Martin, I'm from Argentina, and I've been meaning to ask you something: I read your blog at Sunbelt everyday, and I always find something worth my time there, either it's in the tips and tricks or in the news about spam or other threats, but I never find anything about this particular product of yours the Sunbelt Personal Firewall.
Now I know your developers are working on releasing a Windows Vista version soon but It seems as if the program is not worth yout attention.
Yesterday I was reading about the troubles you had with the Ninja Security program and a Patch from Microsoft released this tuesday and how your guys where working "at Speed of Light" to solve this, well bravo for you on taking this kind of commitment to your customers but what about the firewall?? It's been years since us users are posting about bugs and problems and noone seems to be working at the speed of light to fix them, and believe me this bugs and problems are important to us, because as you say in your blog we all got something to hide and SPF is the gatekeeper on all our machines, so I think we deserve a little attention from you guys.
Don't get me wrong I don't mean you don't care, It's just an impresion that comes from the time it's taking you to make a reasonable version of the firewall that WORKS the way it's supposed to work.
In any case I'm glad you bought the damn thing and are working on improving it, I just would like to hear about your progress to rest easy.
Thank You for reading this.
Martin.-
PD English is not my birth language so please excuse any mistakes you might find." }}
But you never got to answer it, so, don't get me wrong but, here's your chance.

I posted as a guest since I was short on time. I've logged in now as myself.
Mathew, the development manager for the firewall, has posted a more detailed response here:

It's better to reach me by email -- alexe(at)sunbeltsoftware.com. I travel a lot and don't always have time to check my PMs at various forums. But I'm always available by email.
Rest assured, we are committed to continuing to provide support and development for this product.

That's good to hear, especially since after the passing of Sygate Personal firewall it seems the market has gotten smaller when it comes to good firewalls. Not particularly fond of stuff like Comodo or ZA for example so I was hoping for this one to be developed further.
