Hello- first timer here!
The situation is this: I have a teenage son and I'd like to give him more freedom on my home computer. The idea was to say "I have a keylogger on the computer so I can see anything you type in.You are free to use the internet responsibly"...Something like that.
I installed a keylogger called HomeKeylogger. But Norton really doesn't want it there!
I go to Quickscan/Options/Actions, then Spyware. I can see Actions and Exceptions tabs. Now, whether I click the "Override actions configured for security risks" box or not, here's what happens next:
I click Exceptions then Add, and select Spyware.HomeKeylogger. "Next" gives me a window "Configure risks" and I select "Leave ALone (log only)" Then, Finish, and OK. As far as I can tell from Norton help, that should exclude Homekeylogger from Quick scans. (I could do the same for other scans but it works the same as this).
The problem is, once I leave Quickscan and come back to it, the exception is gone and Norton immediately gobbles up my key logger anyway! Am I doing something wrong? Is there a better way to address the problem of knowing what my son is doing on the computer?
Thanks

Lock him down with IE7 or something and then use something like IEHistoryView (google) to view his visited sites.
Google Desktop is capable of saving AIM conversations. I dont know about Yahoo, MSN, etc...otherwise set him up with Gaim or something for chatting
Google Desktop is a great help really....though I wish I could hide it further than just "behind the little arrow" in the systray area But so far the kids here havent done any "monkeying".
It's not just for YOUR protection, it's for the general protection of the whole family. After my last infection in which my sister clicked some hxxp://awesomerings.net/dl_this_for_ringtones.COM (COM file extention.....) it was the last straw, now I can backtrack their steps if they stumble upon some nasty spyware or whatever.
Vista has some "Parental Controls" feature, but it too leaves an icon in the systray showing the kids they are being logged, and I didn't find it too useful, since it will show EVERY page/file request....and with the myspace browsing they do..the log gets very hefty...
As far as the original topic at hand, I've had bad luck with NAV, it's "exceptions" don't work too well Might try looking into "recompressing" the executable and see if that will make NAV ignore it
