this didnt work for me, ive been trying to find all solutions and everyone keeps suggesting this method but i get this box saying the Dllregisterserver entry point was not found

i went and googled Dll register server error and came upond microsoft explaining what mightve went wrong. it says that the shimgvw.dll might be corrupted...or is not a Dll format.

can anyone tell me what to do from there? i really need help.

Hi vanne, ane Welcome to CC Very Happy

Try the following:

- Download a fresh copy of shimgvw.dll here . Do not install it yet.

- Go to Start, Run, type regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll and press Enter.

- Open My Computer and navigate to C:\Windows\System32

- Find the file shimgvw.dll and rename it to shimgvw.dlz

- Reboot your system.

- Unzip the file you downloaded to your C:\Windows\system32 folder.

- Go to Start, Run, type regsvr32 shimgvw.dll and press Enter.

Please note that you should be logged on as Administrator when doing all that.

Let us know if this worked.

thank you for the support but there is still a problem. this is what happened:
when i downloaded the zip file it automatically saved on my destop. i tried to change the settings of where my downloads go and then redownloaded but it didnt work so i went and just moved the zip to the system 32 folder. Now when i try to run regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll it still says that same error again (that the dll is invalid) ...then i figured that i should delete my old shimgvw.dll since i have two in the folder. but it doesnt let me even though im adminstrator. anyways im stuck again.

Did you unzip the file first?

You need to double click on the .zip file in your System32 folder to unzip it. You may find that this fails as you cannot overwrite the existing file.

In this case, boot into Safe Mode (keep tapping the F8 key as soon as you turn your system on and choose Safe Mode from the menu that eventually appears). Navigate to your System32 folder, right click the original shimgvw.dll file and rename it to shimgvw.dlz. Then double click the .zip file you downloaded.

When it has finished extracting and run the regsvr32 shimgvw.dll command.

Reboot and see if it has made a difference.

It is still not letting me change the file.
I went into safe mode and into sys.32 but as soon as I tried to change the name of the original the message popped up again...

Hi vanne,

Download MoveOnBoot and install the utilities, then run MoveOnBoot.

- In the first window, click Next

- In the 2nd window, navigate to C:\Windows\System32\shimgvw.dll, click Open and then Next

- In the 3rd window make sure 'Rename (Move) file' is checked and click Next

- Next window, select your C: drive as the destination and leave the filename as it is shown. Click Next

- Click Start, then click Finish

Reboot your system and shimgvw.dll should be moved from your System32 folder to the root of your C: drive (we then still have a copy of the original file). Unzip your downloaded file to the System32 folder, run the regsvr32 shimgvw.dll command and reboot again. Let me know if this solves the problem.

Try installing in Safe Mode.

To enter Safe Mode, Keep tapping the F8 key as soon as you turn your system on. Use the cursor (arrow) keys to select Safe Mode from the menu that eventually appears and press Enter.
