Do not believe what you read in TopTenReviews - they are not unbiased. Please read this article I wrote awhile back.

The Truth About Anti-Spyware Products.

Regarding combining spam tools:

That and the MWP proxy mode are to the two top features I've been asking for for almost two years now. Re: combining spam tools, I'd prefer some sort of weighting scheme but would compromise for anything that doesn't waste as much of the MWP spam tool capabilities.

As to adding processing load, that may be true. But let users decide whether there's any performance hit and thus whether to enable. Note that the mouseover tool reveals what various spam tools have found so currentlyprocessing must not be terminated once a higher priority spam tool has made it's determination.

Also, I find that leaving MWP to continously poll at a reasonable repeat rate, there's only the few msgs received since the last poll that need to be assessed. Waiting for a few msgs to be checked out isn't that much of a burden.

I agree with this - but I have disabled checking between 12 midnight and 6am so that all my scanners can update and scan unhindered. So really, the problem is first thing in the morning as it checks every 5 minutes at other times.

Also, since my ISP, Cox Communications has stupidly implemented a mandetory spam filter that automatically dumps what it THINKS is spam into a "special" spam folder that I can not POP to, I have to regularlly, throughout the day, go to my webmail and move all the spam and false positives into my inbox for MWP to process. Mad Then I might get enough that MWP seems to slow down while it is determining which DNSBL applies.

O goodie, Cox is the best choice for internet service here and I was looking forward to getting their cable setup when my satellite contract expires. Looks like I'll be keeping my own mail domain after all.

Well, after reporting yet another FP yesterday, "George" at their Omaha Tier 2 support center says that Cox is working with the spamblocker vendor - he does not know who that is - to implement an option for users to disable the feature. I reminded him that that is the same thing they have been telling me for nearly a month. He then read a recent email to me he got from their corporate IT office confirming that the disable option will be coming.

In their defense, I have had CoxHSI (high-speed Internet) since they came to my area in '98 and except for this, I have no complaints. When I was rewiring my house a couple years ago, a Nebraska T-storm felled 1000s of trees (and my local cell tower) in the area, including one that took out my cable - they were out the same day and dropped a new line from the pole directly into my house, straight to my j-box for me - then left me a good 100' of RG-6, several top quality F-connectors, and a couple 5-1000MHz splitters - no questions asked! Now I have fantastic data transfer and gorgeous HDTV reception throughout the house.

And, from my experience, cable sure seems nicer, consistently faster, and more reliable than the DSL offerings I have seen here.

Finally, from a fault tolerant/redundancy perspective, I like having totally distinct and separate forms of communications out of my house - the Internet through cable and my home phone through the phone system. Had my home phone been with Cox too, I would have had no comm out of the house after that storm.

So, unless you have another cable provider in your area, I would still consider Cox a better choice over DSL. And of course, you don't have to use their email.

What I would like to see are the Email Accounts kept with the rest of the configurations.

This way when you move to a new computer you don't have to enter a fist full of accounts. Have them able to move like your blacklist.

Also it would be nice to have a separate time out feature on each email account. Or even a general timeout feature. Once one gets to 10 or more accounts over a modem or satellite with SSL, some account always times out.

The Piggie suggestion is interesting. Maybe the Firetrust team can go the extra mile and add an "Export configuration/Import configuration" feature: the "Export..." makes a compressed file with all the actual configuration files (accounts, filters, black/white lists...), and the "Import..." lets you choose such a file and installs it. This way would be a breeze to move your configuration beetween computers.

It would also make it a breeze for a bad guy to steal a single file and learn unames, POP/SMTP settings, and passwords to all your accounts - this would have to be implemented very carefully. I think it is a neat idea, but question the value - how often does one change computers? I do see the concept used as a form of a backup, however, such as the export/import options used when backing up the Registry or Outlook's .pst file.

I'd like it, hate having to do a registry export after every change to an account setting.

I change computers a lot, have a small homenetwork, and yeah FireTrust knows me and knows I move their program around serveral computers. Been with them a long long time and beta tested their server version for awhile. Anyway, it would be useful to me.

From what I can tell it would be just as easy for a bad guy to install a program on your compiuter if they are there anyway that harvests about anything it desires, since most people run in admin mode out of self defense.

Whether the export file is used for backup, or to transfer to another computer, the process would be the same and is still a good idea. But the concerns are still the same - I think the export file should be encrypted, readable only by the specific licensed copy of MWP that made the export, or some user defined password.

With the above safeguards I would also find this to be an attractive option. Computer changes (especially laptops) are a fact of life for many.

I belive it would have to be a user defined password. I hold several MWP licenses and move them around from machine to machine. I don't use laptops but I build my own desktops for my company. I keep spares built out of this or that of my huge supply of used parts the world keeps giving me. The machine I am on right now is an cluge of odd parts as my main machine is down right now and I am using my main machines MWP license on this one at the moment. Tommorow it could be another machine that goes down after my main one is back up. Then it would be some other license on this machine to keep only one seat per license rule going. I could buy an extra license that floats on the loaner computer here at the company but can't see why loaning the license from a computer that is not operating is that hard to do. Also I often have a few loaners ready to keep us going. With my network it is so hard to define a specific computer as parts from one go to another to do a task, and float all over the company. Parts are retired only when they fail or become really obsolete. We are not gamers so old vid cards and hard drives, etc work just fine.

I'd like to ask for a 'Exclude this filter from the statistics' option. 65 percent of my filtered mail in MailWasher is from my Bounces filter, and this is really skewing the statistics for the Junk Mail statistics screen. Is this a feasible feature?
