What is a good easy linux to use for a newbie?

Kubuntu is for those who like the looks of something similar to XP.
Ubuntu is a Gnome DE distro that doesn't have the flair of KDE.
Both are equally good, as the the underlying OS is Ubuntu.

Download and burn a LiveCD and give it a test before installing.
