I'm having a problem locating drivers for a camera phone I bought. It's a Samsung M300 with Sprint service. I bought a USB cable an want to be able to download pictures. I plugged the cable into the phone and USB port, the computer found the New Hardware, "Samsung CDMA Technologies", I searched driver download sites but can't locate it, any suggestions on how to do this? I don't want to upgrade service on my phone, just download pictures directly. If you have any ideas please let me know. Thanks

If this is your phone then the PC Studio 2 software might do it. I have also seen reports that this download has worked for some people.

I have no idea whether they do actually work or not as I don't use a mobile (cell) phone.

Mr2,
Technical support at Sprint talked me through the process without the need for USB cable, cause I could not find the correct download, I need to google better.
I'm still searching for programs that will help recover all deleted files, if you run across any more please let me know, thanks for all your help.

Glad you got your phone sorted out Very Happy

Some other free recovery programs include:
FreeUndelete
HandyRecovery
Pandora Recovery
Ultimate Data Recovery
SoftPerfect File Recovery

The other apps I have on my system are paid-for programs.
I'm not sure if they will find anything else but it does no harm to try.

Mr2,
I'm back after being away for over a week. FYI, Pandora yielded tremendous results! Nothing was recovered from Recuva, Undelete and others. Almost all my Microsoft Word files, ".doc" were recovered in their entirety and I am still working with the program and getting back more. Thanks to you for sticking with me and giving me the encouragement to go on, when others simply said all my files had been deleted.
One thing though, when I use the deep scan of Pandora, requesting only Microsoft Word files, I still get a huge amount of "JPEGs". Why is that? Can I rescan with Pandora with more refined results? Does it make sense to rescan more than once?
PS I purchased an Espresso 120gb external hard drive and am now backing up all my valuable documents. They claim to give an extra backup feature of 2gb free of encrypted free space for backup via they're website. Do you think it's safe and secure to give them access to my documents on their servers? Is it really an "extra" backup?
Thanks

Wow, that is good news! Very Happy

I will have to fire Pandora up and see what can be tweaked - it's a while since I used it. You should be able to scan more than once. It may not pick up anything extra but it will make life easier when you look through the results.

Good move backing up to the external drive. I have mixed views about online storage - personally I would only use it for things I wouldn't mind being seen such as general photos, music tracks and so on. The more personal stuff would be better on your Espresso drive.

Also bear in mind the time to transfer your files. Using a 4MB connection speed as an example, it would take around 1½ hours to transfer 2GB (at 250MB per second upload speed and allowing for network overheads). And if you lose your connection for any reason then you can't access your files.

I will post back tomorrow when I've had chance to check out the Pandora settings.

Mr2,
Please let me know if there's a way to recapture the several remaining files with Pandora or any other program. It really is terrific. I think I'll stick with the external HD and not look for any added storage with their servers. Thanks

Sorry I couldn't post yesterday - more site maintenance,

OK, I've had a quick fiddle with pandora and I think this will help you out:

- Open pandora and click Exit Wizard if that option is available on the first screen

- Click the Search tab and select your slave drive in the box at the top left

- Make sure File Name is checked and select 'Like' in the next box

- In the text box to the right (there should be a '*' in it now) type *.doc

- Click Search.

Pandora should now only find your document files. Red entries in the results show a file that has been overwritten by new data and is almost certainly unrecoverable. Blue entries are recoverable. Go to Edit, Select All, then go to File, Recover To ...
Browse to a folder on your C: drive to store the files safely (you can create a new directory if you like), make sure the 2 options in the Advanced section are checked and click Recover Now.

If there is a chance that you have documents that have been created in MS Word 2007 then repeat the search using *.docm in the text box instead of *.doc. Save anything found to the folder you used before.

Then change *.docm to *.docx and repeat the Search and Recover.

That should get as much of your data back as possible. The red entries in the list will not contain any data. The blue ones will contain some or all of the original contents.

Hope that helps. Smile

I will certainly follow those instructions for Pandora and report back. Is it okay to send them to the Desktop of my master drive instead of a folder on my master drive? I find the files easier to open that way.
Meanwhile I was fiddling with your trusty PC Inspector, thinking that since I was now able to restore the original Microsoft Word on my master that was on my slave, I might be able to uncover more Word files. After 4 hours and over 50,000 clusters, some of the Word files were intact, others simply did not open, were in gibberish, required a different Word program to open, (I did not know what to do in that case), and various other problems occurred that would not let me open them. I saved them in a folder on my master Desktop for further scrutiny later. Thanks again.

You can certainly send them to a folder on your desktop.

The files that were gibberish are probably just fragments of the original files. Your only hope with these is to copy any text in there that looks like the original content, paste it into Notepad and try to reassemble the whole text.

Not much fun Sad

PCInspector only produced clusters of files. Would I have to paste the clusters to a Notepad to make any sense of them?
I tried Pandora typing *.doc. That only produced 6 Word files and when opened there was nothing inside.
Do you think another program or a different way of using a program would yield any new files?
Thanks

I find those two statements to be very much at odds with each other. However, it seems that the first way of using Pandora is working better than the second way, so I would stick with that.

The only suggestion I could make is to go to the Search tab, select the slave drive and use the search criteria as 'File Name checked, Like *, and click Search.

When the search has finished, right click one of the files in the results list and select Arrange Items By, Type. Then scroll down the list to the first file ending with '.doc' and left click it. Then scroll down some more to the last file ending with '.doc', hold the Shift key down and cleft click this file. All your document files should now be selected, everything else being ignored. Right click anywhere in the blue highlighted filenames and choose 'Recover To...' and save the files.

You may get more results with a paid-for application and almost certainly by using a professional data recovery service. I will leave others to comment on these as, though I would have my preferences, I have no experience of these options. If you have retrieved almost all you documents then it remains for you to decide if the unrecovered documents merit the expense of further (professional) recovery methods.

Mr2,
What I meant by the statement I found nothing inside the 6 .doc files I found with Pandora is when I opened each file there was nothing but a balnk field in the body of the document(s).
I still don't understand what you meant by blue and red files recovered. I saw nothing blue or nothing red. Can you be more specific please?
Also, the several remaining .doc files I have not recovered I know the exact name of each file. Is there any other means that you know of short of paid programs or professionals, to recover those items, as they are not worth paying for but are of sentimental value.
Thank you.

Open the Pandora help screen (the '?' icon at the top) and go to Section 3 - Recovering Deleted Files. Then scroll down to the section entitled 'Deleted Files Have Different Appearances:'. You will see a description of the different colours. Red files have been overwritten and so are probably unrecoverable. Blue and green files are compressed and encrypted files respectively. If you don't see these colours then you have not found any files in these three categories. (See my attached screenshot)

I have no experience of any other data retrieval programs. If I needed to recover data that the programs already mentioned could not recover then I would consider Gibson Research's SpinRite. The latest version is $89.00. You could also search for paid-for applications that offer a trial as these may be practical for working with a small number of files.

If you take a look at the picture & description above you can see the files are highlighted in red & blue. In the 6 *.doc files I recoverd using Pandora only the first box on the extreme left is in red, all of them are, the description to its right & the drive and folder it is located in are all in black. What does this mean?
