when you restart your computer, press f8 as windows is loading, and choose safe mode. _________________

Well, tried it, but one problem. You guessed it. System Restore opens with netscape.

can you run regedit?
go to start >> run and type 'regedit'
when you say opens with netscape, you do mean that netscape just opens, right? _________________

You know you could also try UNINSTALLING netscape, that would probably either do one of two things: 1. Let the system scan for the next best program to open with (hopefully it's original program). 2. It will allow you to browse a list of programs to open them with, and you will have to do it for all of your programs, but if you check the box that says "always open with this program" you should only have to do it once
