LOL. Very Happy
You've even beaten me on age by the sound of it!

With the "tomorrow" comment I was meaning like literally "tomorrow."
I know FireFox's time is coming, but it's still only got a safe 10% share right now.

Yeah, actually the compatibility isn't perfect by a long way, but some bright spark has even written an embedded IE plugin for FF (which has scripting problems all of it's own!).

If the recent media stories are to be believed, the way IE7 is going, it's likely to end up behind in compatibility even (problems with PHP and CSS mainly).

Here's a quote from Paul Thurrott (something I came across last week):
"My advice is simple: Boycott IE. It's a cancer on the Web that must be stopped. IE isn't secure and isn't standards-compliant, which makes it unworkable both for end users and Web content creators. Because of their user bases, however, Web developers are hamstrung into developing for IE at the expense of established standards that work well in all other browsers."

I think his prejudice is maybe a little stronger than my own! Very Happy

No, I don't hate Internut Exploder either, but it's nice finally to have some proper competition to keep Microsoft just a little less comfortable in their throne.

Ha! I'm just another quinquagenarian but not certain that is anything to brag about.

Yeah, I saw Paul's comments - he has some good points, not sure boycotting IE is the answer. I'm for tougher laws with teeth, law enforcement with resources to track down the badguys, and judges with backbones.

And I am grateful for FF for putting a match under MS - I agree with your competition statement. Time will tell.

Exactly, IE team was finally forced to do something. To officiially release tabs one year after they became custom and RSS as well?! I remember, that I read this year in their blog, what one of their team mates wrote: "IE is the most popular browser, because more than 90% users use it". I got to laugh, I think, that they have no idea, what it is going on around. I know countries, where Firefox is used by min 20% and Opera by 5%. But I like the way the IE 7 is going, good work.

Verify Windows XP SP2 Compatibility with ACT 4.1
Are you thinking of upgrading to Windows XP or installing Service Pack 2? Identify and resolve application compatibility issues with the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit version 4.1.

I just installed a new hard drive on my computer. I haven't installed the SP2 Service Pack yet. The reason is because I have an active desktop that I LOVE. When I installed SP2 on my last computer, the desktop no longer worked properly. I'm looking into whether I really need it or not now.

If you connect to the Internet, you need SP2 - period! Without it, you remain vulnerable to attack by viruses, worms, and trojans. You system may be hijacked and turned into a zombie and used by spammers to send spam or distribute malware. You become a threat to everyone else. Your identity may be stolen, your credit ruined, your bank accounts emptied.

Am I kidding? Not for a second! I recommend you upgrade now.

Well, I expect it was not what you wanted to hear but SP2 is necessary if using XP and you connect to the Internet. Hope it went well and you are happy with the results. At least you know your system is much better protected now.

Do check your firewall settings. Windows Firewall (Internet Connection Firewall in SP1 and earlier) defaults to on. It is woefully inadequate and should be replaced immediately. It only blocks unauthorized incoming access attempts. I recommend either ZoneAlarm or Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall, which block both incoming and outgoing unauthorized access attempts, thus preventing Trojans, keyloggers, and other spyware from "phoning home" with your personal information. Do not use more than one software based firewall.

Yep! I've got Zone Alarm Security Suite. FULLY protected with that! So protected that I had a hard time when I first logged onto the internet. It was TOO safe!! LOL Any idea if there's much difference between Security Suite and just the regular ZA w/ Antivirus?

I don't use the security suite or ZA with AV - I do use ZAP which is the firewall and anti-spyware. Rather than throw this thread off the topic of upgrading to SP2, I suggest you ask those questions in the CastleCops ZoneAlarm Forum - Hoov can answer that better than me.
