FYI, I just yesterday updated the first post in this thread to alleviate the che confusion - at least I hope.
| Quote: | | Membership is entirely open, but inclusion depends on seeing your name in the Stanford Folding@Home Stats. If your F@H ID is different than your CastleCops uname, you will have to let someone know. This can easily be accomplished by replying to this topic. |
This should avoid unnecessary PM'ing of staff which is not encouraged by the site. There are currently two co-Host here who monitor the stats, not counting Hearteater and whomever else may become involved in the future.
In a side note, a suggestion has been made to try and acquire old servers to be donated in CastleCops name specifically for Team CastleCops. Add your ideas and suggestions to the forum. This sort of ties in with a suggestion made a year ago that we contact organizations that might be interested in helping us with Folding@Home. Most of the people involved with that idea haven't been around recently. There is a post, probably on page two with links. I may have more in my inbox. I'll try to get that back up front again.
Thank You.

I am currently installing the client and am glad to be donating to this cause through castelcops. I have been looking into doing this for some time and trying to find the right avenue in which to do it. Since i am new to this forum and have recieved valuable help and information from the members of this forum I have chosen Folding Protiens as my avenue. I am currently using the search function to learn as much as I can but wonder if there are any additional settings or concerns I should implement for security while running the program?

The program itself is quite good at checking the files it downloads and the server it connects to. Security, in my opinion is the least of your worries.
Welcome to F@H Avenue.

Which forum? I have a couple of old Compaq servers, but it's cheaper for me to just recycle (trash) than to ship.

I haven't seen any security problems, but I do have a hint. I'm running Win2k on this machine and wondered what would happen if I raised the process priority to "high" and went to bed instead of trusting the app to use as much as it could. I don't suggest it, as it isn't neccesary.
It leaves a "shadow" now, and I have to click the "show desktop" icon in the system tray to see my desktop.
If you don't raise the priority, it still does as much work, as far as I can tell. I just like playing around.

I've played around with priorities while running F@H with another program. If there was a difference, it was minimal.
There are some trial and errors posted throughout the forum - some do's and don'ts that some of us have experienced. You'll see warnings too, as far as the damage some programs may inflict. Though it is an extra step, many of us are in the habit of shutting down the program before exiting, even pausing before shutting down.
Hang tigh with the servers. I will PM RuyLopez.

Greetings,
Did I hear someone mention servers?
Tim, would you be so kind as to PM me with the specs on the servers and your general location so we can evaluate the possible shipping question?
For the record, seafsee is indeed correct in that there is an effort afoot to acquire servers that would be dedicated to the Team CC effort. Discussions are currently underway and I am hopeful that they will progress rapidly. I should note that we probably already have a location for such servers.
Best regards,
RL

Well I doubt that it is spin-orbit coupling in the photoelectron continuum.
Good things happen when you work hard for a good cause!

Is that like when my computer at work and my computer at home each kick over a WU at the same time? That's gonna happen this morning, according to predictions.

Wasn't that an album by the Police?
You know the times they are a-changing, when the mention of your '45's causes an uproar Because you forgot to qualify it by adding the words vinyl and records, before and after!
Then if little ones are around, you have to explain what a record is
