LinuX Suse 9.3 extreme problem

I got linux 2 days ago and i tried to install it like 3 times......the problem is it says t deletes the whole partition but it doesnt cuz after the installation it lets me choose between OS and windows is in the list.......
2. after initializing hardware and that the screen turns black........i thought its a loading prblem but i gave it 1 hour and it was still black.....like when windows s in standby mode......
Any ideas why.....btw, many of my hardwares arent listed there........

It sounds like you may have some hardware problems, the hardware forum here might be your best place to start:

You could also scan the hardware list here and compare your system components to see if you can find a problem:

no luck........ive got a lot of hardware which arent in the suse's list and bcuz of that they cant be configed right nad the linux wont start.....i really wished to try linux......

Lot's of other distro's out there.

SUSE 9.3 isn't released for free release yet. If you downloaded from their site, you don't have the full package.

You could try SUSE 9.2 or any other distro. Go to DistroWatch and see what the more popular releases are. You can also find links to download images that you can use to load Linux.

There are a number of "Live CD" distributions of Linux - they boot straight off the CD without having to install to disk: Ubuntu, Mepis, Knoppix, PCLinuxOS, etc.

Some - like Ubuntu - are free!

Are there other versions of suse linux which is free to use?I am a new guy wanted to learn linux.Can you tell me which free version is best for me?

SuSE 9.2 is pretty good. That was my first distro when I got back into the "nix" game, but it was slower than molasses on my old dinosaur. I also had some issues with setting up GRUB for the dual boot (I also use XP every now and then).

The thing I hated about SuSE was the length of time it took to install on my machine (over an hour). Once it was up and running, it was solid and worked well, other than being slow.

But SuSE is a good package for a beginner to cut their teeth on. Support for it is really good in various forums, and it comes with pretty much everything you need.

If you're running an older machine, I'd recommend Vector Linux SOHO 5.0.1, and scrap KDE in favor of IceWM as your windows manager. I'm running it on an old PIII 450 and it flies on this machine.

thankyou for your recommend.I have never heard of vector linux soho.I'll go to his home page to search for infor.My pc is pentium III,i think it's the older pc in your sense.it's my tool in my office, Very Happy !
I want to install linux with less components on small disk space,maybe vector linux is the best one for my requirements.
I search for this version of linux in google,but i found a few resources.can you tell me where i can get more infor about it?if possible,pls offer me the url of download.
I hope the version of this linux is free os and can download from internet!

You can find Vector Linux here.

One of the great things about this distro is if you run into any issues, they have a forum on their site that the developers participate in. Makes it easy to get answers directly from the folks that wrote it. Smile
