OK, it hates me.
"You cannot upload a new Avatar while another one is selected. Please delete the old one first."
How do I delete a non-existent Avatar?

At the end of the Profile page, there is a checkbox to delete the old avatar. There may have been a blank avatar associated. Once you check it and click submit, go back and then re-upload your avatar.

Ok.. the only thing I can think of right now is that perhaps the file you are uploading may be too big. What is the size and dimensions of it?
