Help in evaluation of my Spyware issue.
Hello Dear Sir Or Madam,
I'm Teki & I'm very sorry to be taking up your time, but I was wondering if you can help me with Questions I have, or steps I need to take to make sure that my PC is not infected with any harmful type of Spyware, Malware, Virus, Trojan & etc. I have worked for a long time to try to organize the tests that I have done on my PC, & would Greatly Appreciate It, if you could spare your time to look through them. Also, the reason I ask you to evaluate these test results of mine is that I may be able to use my PC to shop online, order/pay with my credit card soon. Well, let me first tell you that I am a new beginner in the forum world, so I would like to apologize before hand if I'm in the wrong page area. I’d also like to mention that one day recently, I had received a Pop-Up, while looking for a spyware program. I then clicked on an introduction video & some type of Pop-Up or flash came up. I clicked it, so that I may get rid of it, & immediately noticed that my PC got slower. Even when I closed Internet Explorer, I saw another Pop-Up saying that (A spyware has infected your computer, please run an anti-virus to get rid of it), or something similar to that effect. I noticed my Desktop Wallpaper looked different, the Internet Explorer had different settings, & when I was online, it kept taking me to a page I had never been in. Later on, the Task Manager wouldn’t open, & the Start Menu wouldn’t work. I searched & came to the Castle Cops- Malware Removal and Prevention: Overview. I then registered, & went back to read more. After reading more & seeing symptoms get worse, I went & downloaded SUPERAnti-Spyware, & ran it. Later noticing that I didn’t take the right steps using SuperAntiSpyware before I made a Preliminary HiJack This scan & log. I had Already Used SUPERAntiSpyware, so in order to give- make an Accurate (Preliminary HiJack This Scan & Log), I had to go back to the beginning of the PC's State. I used System Restore to go back in time, in order to retrieve the Original Mode of PC, in order to be able to have a Record of PC's 1st State, for Diagnosis. I tried to follow instructions more carefully. After a HiJack This scan & log I immediately turned my McAfee Firewall off, & also my System Restore (Using Windows XP Home Edition-SP2). After many days past, I ran through all the instructions & tested my PC with these programs. I then took more days to organize the tests/results/ files & etc. to be able to send this information over to you. In conclusion, I am asking & or begging you to see the test results of the programs run. I wish I could then order/ shop online if everything looks ok. I know that your job is very difficult, so I Promise Not to Hold You Accountable if I use my PC for online shopping, & there is something you miss. I hope this has been thorough enough for you. I’m Excited, Concerned, & am looking forward to meeting you & working with the Castle Cop Staff.

Hello, & Happy Fourth of July Weekend. I'm writing to you today to find out if my Post has been erased or forgotten. I Realize & Understand if the Castle Cops Staff & Crew are Extremely Busy, and haven't gotten to my post yet. This is Not a Complaint, so please don't misinterpret it as one. I'm just curious to know if I'm still on the waiting list or if I have been erased. I'm New to Forums & Postings so please forgive me for not knowing more about Forums, & or Response times, etc. If I'm just on the waiting list, then that's just fine. I'm willing to wait for a very long time, if I must. I'm simply asking you to respond back, so I'll know that I'm on the waiting list, & everything is okay. Again, This Isn't a Complaint. I'm willing to wait for as long as I need to wait. I'm just unsure how the forums work. Thank You,

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.
The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.
Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:
The Recovery Console was successfully installed.
Please continue as follows:
- Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
- Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

I'm very Sorry for not responding back to you sooner. I didn't know I had to. Anyways, I'm really Sorry for that. I have been meaning to write to you, to tell you about my situation. In the question, if I need anymore help?, well it's difficult to explain,Yes & No. What I mean is that I don't think I have any Spyware, but I'm not 100% sure either. In your instructions to: Download ComboFix, I Succeded. However, in your instructions to get the Recovery Console, I had some type of problem. I'll write to You Back Soon, in my explanation of what I'm trying to do, or what I tried to do, & a More Detailed Report of what happened. I'll try to tell you all the details that I can, about my issues:
But First, let me help Explain a few Signs or Symbols I think Will Help You in Understanding the Difference between My Personal Writing, & The Instructions Given to me by some of the Web Pages. I’ll try to separate My Writing & the Instructions given to me from the web pages, by using, ()<OOO>() Sign, to show that it is Written from Me, & the, ><)(>< Sign, to show that it is Writing or Directions NOT FROM ME.
()<OOO>() =(My Writings): I followed your instructions to go in the webpage:

()<OOO>() : I then followed the instructions to Use either/or Bleepingcomputer.com, or Geekstogo.com so that I may Download-The ComboFix.exe file. I Successfully Downloaded the ComboFix.exe file on my Desktop as suggested. My Desktop had a ComboFix Icon, with a White X inside the Icon, (Note= when I say icon, I don't mean the icons in the bottom right hand corner of the Desktop; but what I mean to say is the Icon Shortcut inside the Desktop). Now I read about getting the Console. Now, I used the instructions:
“How to install and use the Windows XP Recovery Console, if you have a Windows Installation CD”.
(At First I used these instructions because I thought by having the, " Toshiba Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD, for the Satellite A105 Series, which came with my computer, it would be sufficient enough for finding & Installing the Windows CD files). However, this was not the case because, when I followed the steps to get the Recovery Console, by putting in the Windows XP CD-which is my :(Toshiba Recovery CD), & then opened it, a Window Opens Up- showing:
-The Toshiba Recovery & Applications CD-A105 WINDOWS XP HOME PIRADDVD.
It also has a choice of either:
Install Type:
1. Install Applications & Drivers, or,
2. Restore the Original Default System Install.
I choose the option 1. (To Install Applications & Drivers) & click Next. A new Window Opens, showing, :
" Choose an item & press the install button ".
Now I follow the instructions from the page,
" How to install & use the Windows XP Recovery Console IF YOU HAVE A WINDOWS INSTALLATION CD ".
I do the steps:
><)(><: To install the Recovery Console on your hard drive, follow these steps:
1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your CD-ROM drive. ((My Toshiba Recovery CD, Done)).
2. Click the Start button. (Done).
3. Click the Run menu option. (Done).
4. In the Open: field type X:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons , where X is the drive letter for your CD reader, and press the OK button. (Done).
()<OOO>(): I now, get a message showing, or (The title is writing):
><)(><: (" D:\i386\winnt32.exe").
()<OOO>(): On the inside of the message, it writes,
><)(><: ("Windows cannot find 'D:\i386\winnt32.exe.' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To Search for a File, Click the Start Button, and then Click Search.) .
()<OOO>(): There is a circle in red, with a white X inside the circle, located on the inside left of this message. I then click on the OK button. Now I look inside MY TOSHIBA RECOVERY AND APPLICATIONS CD. I look & try to find anything that would relate to a Windows Installation. The only things I find are files named:
1. "QFE for a Windows XP SP2 computer with Multiple (V3)KB896256”.
I CLICK ON THIS HOPING it's a Re-installation of the Windows Program. However, it seems not to be it. So After I had clicked to see this file, I go inside my System Restore, & Restore My PC to a state before I had Clicked ON THE KB896256 file. The Rest of the remaining files THAT SOMEWHAT RELATE to the Windows Installation, (In my Opinion), ARE :
2. “QFE for Availability of Win XP COM+ hotfix Rollup Package 9 KB895200”.
3. “QFE for Cannot Add Windows Components in Win XP KB884018”
4. “QFE for Fixing Hardware Data Execution Prevention of Win XP SP2 KB889673”.
5. “QFE for MS Windows Installer 3.1 (V2) KB893803”.
6. “QFE FOR WINDOWS COULD ALLOW INFORMATION DISCLOSURE KB888302”.
I decided NOT to click on any of these remaining files; so I EXIT The Toshiba Recovery & Applications CD. At this time, I go to the webpage:
“If you use Windows XP and DO NOT HAVE the Windows CD, & follow these Instructions”.
The Instructions:

Also, that I am provided these kinds of Setup boot disks so that I can run the Setup program on my computer if it cannot use a bootable CD-ROM. (BUT MY TOSHIBA PC CAN BOOT ON CD, USB, FLOPPY, Etc. I didn't Understand why I was referred to this Page by MICROSOFT?). I followed the directions, even though part of the instructions wrote,

After this point, I am afraid that my PC might get more ERRORS in the future, because it still has some of the Files & Drivers from the Floppy Boot Installation Disks. So I System Restore my PC to a state before I had Loaded these Floppy Disks. After all this has happened, I had tried to Open ComboFix without The Recovery Console, & a message had come up. This message happened right before you Open the ComboFix Scan. The Message said something like:
><)(>< : ( 1/100 COMPUTERS FAILED IN THIS PROCESS. DO YOU STILL WANT TO RUN THIS PROGRAM.)?
()<OOO>() : I click NO, & then close ComboFix. I never get to Step 4 on page: ><)(>< :

Once the Windows Recovery Console has finished installed, ComboFix will open a prompt stating that it was installed and asking if you would like to proceed with scanning your computer. If you wish to continue, then press the Yes button and continue reading the tutorial from here. Otherwise, please continue with the rest of the tutorial below.
We are almost ready to start ComboFix, but before we do so, we need to take some preventative measures so that there are no conflicts with other programs when running ComboFix. At this point you should do the following:
· Close all open Windows including this one.
· Close or disable all running Antivirus, Anti-Spyware, and Firewall programs as they may interfere with the proper running of ComboFix. Instructions on disabling these types of programs can be found in this topic.
Once these two steps have been completed, double-click on the ComboFix icon found on your desktop. Please note, that once you start ComboFix you should not click anywhere on the ComboFix window as it can cause the program to stall. In fact, when ComboFix is running, do not touch your computer at all and just take a break as it may take a while for it to complete.
