Linksys WRT54G Firmware crash (HELP)

This is my first post on CastleCops. I have searched the forums for my problem, and have not found anything exactly what I am dealing with. So here goes...


Yesterday, my home network became problematic, I indeed had internet access but only if plugged in LAN. My wireless access would not connect. Upon some investigation and troubleshooting what seems to have happened is my firmware for the router became corrupted.

( I have two kids and a dog, things tend to get unplugged and mistreated from time to time...)

So here is what I know....

I have a Linksys WRT54G I was using v4.11, Hyperwrt 2.1b1 + Thibor15c as the firmware.

Today when I decided to reset back to the original firmware, from linksys website,
WRT54G4.0_421.1

I got a very strange result!

I wanted to post the img in this post, but it looks like I can't so I will try to upload it as an attachment.

As you can see, I can indeed goto 192.168.1.1 but, I get an almost empty page. There are no places to click (aside from the ampersend "&") you see at the top.

I suspect that something went wrong in the firmware installation. I had several options, at first, and one was clear DVRAM and then install new firmware, I did not choose that one, I fear I should have.

All is not lost however, because I now wireless and LAN internet ability. However, I can no longer share files and printers.

Does anyone have any knowledge of how to fix this? I can't find anyway to upload the factory defaults as I no longer have the links on my Linksys home page...

Any suggestions (aside from the obvious, buy a new router...)

I have ver. 6 of this router. Go to Linksys and download the latest upgrade for your version of the router. In 192.168.1.1, click "Administration", click "Firmware Upgrade", and browse to the downloaded file. After installation, go to the first page and enter any needed data. If the default name and password are there, change them and re-enter all data from the first page to the last page.

Linksys has a Forum for their products at their site. Go there if further help is needed. Also, check at Linksys to see if your router is still under warranty. Most versions came with three year warranties, so if repair is needed and yours is still under warranty, you can contact them.

Wouldn't it be great if it was that easy...

As I stated in my original post,
When I open 192.168.1.1 I get the Linksys router page, but it does not have ANYTHING to click. It is almost blank. Please re-read the original post, as I have explained it fairly straight forward (so I thought).

try using the reset button on the router to reset it - it is possible that it might recognize a failed install and fix itself....
