I found a cheap way to show a screen shot using BBCode.
You have to pull the image from another server, but it does work fairly well.

Jim

I saw your post about this but didn't understand what you meant or how you were suggeting to make screen shots. I am sure that you don't mean such as using the following method:
What I did is certainly not a screen shot. What did you mean, for the dense, such as I? Or am I smarter than the average imp?

I mean that I can take a screen shot and save it as a jpeg image and download it to my free ISP homepage. From there I can simply use the normal BBCode and display it in these forums.
I also do this with free graphics and emoticons I find on the web. I'll copy them and place them on my homepage, which I don't use for anything except storing images and text files, and I can use that to display the images anywhere that allows BBCode or HTML code.
This way, I'm not downloading to the server here (I can't anyway), and I'm not stealing bandwidth from the site where I grabbed the image or graphics. Like I said, a cheap way to display a screen shot, but effective. All that is required is some available web space to place and access the file. Most people have a homepage that came with there internet service. Many don't use it, at all, for anything. Since gifs, jpegs, and text files are generally small, you can store quite a few of them in the usually small amount of space provided for free.
If your ISP does not offer a free homepage account with your service, you can always find a small, free, web storage site on the internet if you do a quick search for one. There is no need to even make a page, just download the files and take note of the address. My homepage continually displays the default index.htm file for "under construction". But, I know I have a ton of files that I have access to at that address.

Which all means that as I load this page at CCSP I also will accept your image, offsite, at http://home.swbell.net/jmn1207/scrshot.jpg.. a totally different IP and in this case(for me) in TCP port 1531.
Now that is nothing alarming...many Forum do it that way..even Avatars
But..are you aware of any Security Vulnerabilities it present to members or the site it self ??????

Ah. Thank you. I never established a homepage with my ISP, so as of now, I have a shell account but cannot u/l from that to my knowledge. I do know so very little about the Interent. Maybe one of these days, I will/should establish a home page. I used to have several sites from which I could u/l something to a site, but one by one, they all stopped giving that ability. I've done nothing about it since. Maybe it's getting closer to the time that I will be forced to do so if I want to use images in these forums. Sometimes a little goose helps.

Sure there are John.
If you mean to my homepage, that's my ISP's concern. I'm not too concerned about a hack into my data dump of goofy images. However, I could make my own web bug and insert it within my message. If anyone isn't protected from these exploits, I suppose it is possible for me to gather information on anyone who views my message. And I have no privacy policy that I am aware of at the moment. I'd sell to the highest bidder for sure.
Not sure about pop-ups, redirects, browser home hijackings or anything else. But I will be performing a few tests. Not here, on any of you, of course.

I found a free site that offers plenty of room for storage, files are managed through your browser(FTP if you want to pay), links aren't too laborious to type, and I could not find anything too specific that claimed I couldn't use it for a storage space. At least it wasn't worded in the terms of service in a way that would make it obvious. Besides, what are they going to do, cancel my account?

What kind of information does home.swbell.net collect on any member here who then displays this page with the image you presented???? Do you know?

I don't suppose there is any real threat from a gif unless you believe those rumors that were being spread around a few months ago.
In fact, most free web hosting sites do not allow files to be transfered, they must be accessed as part of an html page. Fortunecity will not even allow me to link images. For a while I was able to get small wav files to work with my ISP home page. Click on an image or link, hear a little jingle or noise. Cute, but they have since stopped me from doing that. They expect me to purchase another domain and provide all of my files from my own server.
Now, it is possible to have links to active server pages or use cgi script if you have the tools installed to take advantage of the information that could be gathered. That's not my cup of tea. It would be nice to include the embed tag to this BBCode site. I want people to hear farts when they click on my little toilet emoticon. As it stands, if I do add a little sound to an image, it treats it as a hyperlink and opens in a new window. That seriously detracts from the experience. I want my HTML!!!! BBCode is too limiting.
Oh! I'm beat. Whenever you ask if someone needs help moving, it will never be taken as merely a friendly gesture. Your services will always be employed. Next time I'll make sure to play up something like the West Nile Virus coming on before I open my big mouth. "I'm here if you think you'll need my help". I'm such an idiot! Hide-a-beds are incredibly heavy and awkward to move around. I think I'm just gonna have beanbags for furniture from now on. I could be completely moved out in a few hours with only beanbags to tote around.

I just want to make sure they are not draining any of precious bodily fluids without my knowledge
I tried to give a donation yesterday to the Forum..but the line was so long and everyone eles was peeing in their pants..I did not wait around.
BTW- when someone asks you to help them move..you are not suspose to steal all the bathroom fixtures..muchless the porcelin god..those thing are heavy , my friend. Now if you got JD to help you move the outhouse with his tractor, like he does the posts in this forum..they would not have to shut it down for maint. and you would not be all tuckered out. I do not know what you keep in that tote bag..Hope it is not that copper pipe you guys borrowed on that move...becareful what you put in it to smoke..if you send the wrong signals..you will have all those Texas Rangers bearing down on this Forum wanting to take a puff.
Now if you could only learn how to blow smoke rings..we could get that Corps Circle Category going around here without getting into too much trouble.
Make sure you flush..next time you drop a post like that..I know you were tired from all that moving..so I will left it pass for now...and will close the door very gently for Jaykaykay just to make sure IE did not leave any hidden windows open...you never know when one of those new trojans are going to sneak past your firewall...burning a match does not always help. Phew...that was a long winded post.
