Compare Product Reviews in this ClassPest Patrol is a mature product that has been around for a few years, and I've been using it since version 4. In comparison to the free products it does outperform them all when it comes to malware removal whatever the type it may be. Its detection list is updated just about everyday and it does incorporate a couple of system tools.
I can't really evaluate the effectiveness of the system tools, one is a cookie monitor and the other monitors memory, but in all instances where I have seen them in action, they seem to be quite effective. The reason I can't properly evaluate them is I don't as a habit install spyware, but I spend most of my day removing it from clients computers and use PP to remove it.
When using Pest Patrol in conjuction with Hijack this and CWS shredder you can pretty well be satisfied that your computer is clean. Pest Patrol is priced on the expensive side, but until the advent of Counterspy, after testing all other products, it was the most effective product.
The GUI is clunky but serviceable, the scanning speed is adequate and detection is outstanding. One aspect of the product I do like is that it also removes the registry entries where some do not. In the case of Spyware Blaster, just open it up after the scan and clean is complete and reinitialize Protect All.
Overall the product is simple to use, easy to maintain, (no autoupdate feature!) effective, but on the expensive side. I'd recommend the product to any apt user. The companies support website is best in the business, IMHO.

Run your google search here at cc to find my previous posts regarding Pest Patrol folks. I have two more cents to throw in the pot.
I received a reply today 12/18/05 from CA regarding pest patrols finding an unknown dialer on my system, and called it a Trojan.
We had this wrestling match before. Pest patrol identified numerous things on my computer and called them Trojans, geez, you should have seen the list.
All turned out to be harmless.
The latest finding from pest patrol that prompted my email to their support people was the above mentioned unknown dialer.
This alleged Trojan was in fact the semantic related dialer that connects me to their server for running live updates.
As I stated in my previous posts regarding Pest Patrol, it is indeed a good piece of software, but not for the novice user.
If you don''t know what you''re deleting with pest patrol, you may very well be deleting something as innocuous as your own protection software.
Beware.

I''m going to crank my thoughts on this down a bit due to some ''nagging'' features and especially C/A''s lack of response to my both technical and non-technical queries. It seems Customer Service is a bit lacking. Still, I find the product to work well, but it really needs some customer feedback and tweaking. So, I like it, but I don''t like it. Go figure.
Spybot is STILL free, and he keeps up-to-date, and it does a gazillion things....it''s worth a donation. Make it worth his while before Symantec buys him out and screws the whole thing up for $39.95 after rebates.

What I should have added to this is that the review is for Pest Patrol version 4.
PP 5 is a whole ''nuther story. :-(

I agree this is a good product, but saying that there is no ''auto-update'' is misleading; you have to SHUT it OFF, or leave it on, or check when YOU want, you have three choices! Also, as I put in my review Dec 8, it has the MOST annoying feature, WORSE than any auto-update...it checks your LICENSE CODE EACH TIME you start it up! Now to me, that''s not only asinine but more annoying and unneccesary than any auto-update feature! I''d rather know I have the latest update than have Computer Associates check my reg code every day, especially since I''m only 17 days into a 365-day license! So, whatever blows up your skirt; but to me, CA seems a bit paranoid, and it is a pain, especially on a dial-up connection when you have no connection! But other than that frustrating feature, it''s a good product. I wouldn''t give it 10 stars, though....maybe when CA gets their act together.

I use pestpatrol but find its defenition list does not cover everything, I also use CWShredder, and HijackThis, but find if I use Spy Bot, a free program, it is more effective in removing everything. There has only been one time that things have gotten past pest patrol, and spy bot was able to find the remaining spyware. A few Trojan Virus''s have gotten by Pest Patrol as well, that I have found manually. But other than that, Pest Patrol is recomended by me.

I have been using the eval product and find this program tobe very helpful. I''ve used it on numerous occasions lately as we''ve been getting hit with bargain buddy on a lot of computers. It cleans the registry in places you would think or do want to venture. Though I recommend this product, it can''t be used by itself, you''ll still need to incorporate other products, such as hijackthis, etc.
