Outpost Firewall Pro ver. 2.5.375.4822 (374)
I just bought the license for this firewall and am very disappointed. It is difficult to configure. Where most other firewalls simply ask for permission the first time a program needs access to the internet, Outpost simply blocks access without asking. The configuration settings are all over the place and hard to find. It even blocks my antivirus from getting updates. I won't be renewing this one. It simply is not user friendly.

I used Outpost freebie for some time. That was horrendous to configure. Which forced me to learn via the excellent OP Forums. Then I bought OP Pro, which configured my PC automatically. I could have tinkered with that, having learned with the Free version, but just left it. I have absolutely no complaints about this application

Spot on, open the box give it a couple of turns and its off on its own. Its the greatest clockwork installer I have ever used. The GUI could use a lick of paint and perhaps a couple of feathers but come on thats knitpicking. Go out and buy it, in fact buy two and give one to a loved one.

Ive been using Outpost Pro for a few years now and think its the one of the best software Firewalls you can buy. It will give you safe configuration right out of the box, despite some other users comments. The beauty about this firewall is that Outpost Pro can further be tweaked by someone more experienced to make the firewall even tighter and even more secure. There are guides on the net (already mentioned here) that will allow anyone (with a bit of care and knowledge) to safely tweak Outpost Pro that little bit further. I am a very happy user of this product, which has been getting very high awards from worldwide PC mags etc for the last couple of years. Agnitum have just released 2.6 Pro which IMHO totally rocks and keeps up the extremely high standards of security. But a firewall is only as safe as its user allows.....

I agree that Outpost 2.5 is more difficult to set up and use than other firewalls I''ve tried, but I do think it''s a good product; although it appears to be geared towards more advanced users.

You may want to check out the user forums at http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/index.php?

You can also test your firewall with Shields Up at https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

I think once you''re more familiar with Outpost Firewall Pro 2.5, you''ll grow to like it.

I''m sorry but I have to agree with Miriano. Outpost is an excelent firewall and does give you all the options if set up correctly.

Well, you just bought it and complain?... I can give you my case: after many years of using ZoneAlarm I was suggested to try Outpost, and actually I have to say that on my opinion it''s a superior product. It does NOT simply block programs, it asks you every time. And it gives a much larger range of options than any of the competing products. For instance, it allows to block only a specific web address, and this allows me to get rid of all those annoying banners (including the one in MSN Messenger...)

So maybe you install went somehow wrong and you ended up with some wrong setting. The standard install is actually pretty clever in configuring the basic needs. You could maybe give it another chance...
