Compare Product Reviews in this ClassIn General
Kaspersky has developed an exceptional piece of software. It's general reputation is well deserved.
In general opperation, Kas AV is not the friendliest around. It does a lot of checking and updating. But wait, that's a good thing! The reality of Kas AV is, that you are going to notice it running. This is no elegant software, winding and threading it's way as though it isn't even there. Kas AV -is- there and doing it's job.
Script-Sniffing
Particularily it's Online checking may drive you crazy, sniffing through every script it comes across. But just when you're about fed up with it clogging your machine and spiking to 30% CPU usage and higher, it nails a script-kiddie trying to install bots on your machine, through a web-page add-on.
Support
Just a little while ago my system went buggy. Things jammed up, and I couldn't get the Taskmanager to let me look at what was going on. After using Security Taskmanager, I traced a couple of suspicious processes, killed them and sent them on to Kas New Virii support. Within the hour, I had a mail back confirming it was a new version of a ghostbot.
Updates
The next update - half an hour later, nailed it when I tried to move the file that had spread the bot on my machine to a different directory. Now, that's ace support.
Taking Customers Seriously
In a message I sent to customer support a little while later, I commended their facility and the virus-tech in question. I also made a couple of suggestion to improve functionality. Now, I don't know, but I'd say 90% of my suggestions (some of which detailed and obscure) where implemented in extra tweakability features in the latest major update of Kas AV 5.0.3. Amazing. Very cool.
So, summing up this Kas AV groupie review, I'd say:
* Yes, Kas AV will drag down your systems performance;
* Yes, Kas AV is intransparent about what it's up to, and may go off on incomprehensible tangents;
But:
* Hell, yes - it delivers.
