I bought Norton about one hour after I got on cable internet a few years ago. It ran fine. I have in on two machines, one an old hp that is the only one that regularly sees the net. A few months ago, I got the live update problem that is discussed in the Norton forums. After going over the mindnumbing number of things that one has to do to get this thing running right, I got AVG and guess what, it found a bunch of little things that really weren't a problem but that norton totally missed. Trying to contact norton is like banging your head on the wall. This week I got a popup from Norton wanting me to renew in 23 days.... well, bye bye norton.

Norton Internet Security

My Score:

I have been using NIS for 4 years including 2005 amnd I am fed up with the whole thing. Not only does it slow down my computer, it has wedged itself as a system program. Im sure for good reason but removal at update time is a nightmare. The computer I am on now (dual p-III. OS MSXPPROsp-2) has been on MS firewall and Antivir, both free mind you, for a year with zero downtime or lost data due to internet nasties. It is on-line 99.9% of the time also. Remember, thats just my opinion on NIS. Always do what you want to make you happy.
Peace

Back in my good graces.
The day after I made this post I got a bulk e-mail from Symantec notifying me that my subscription was about to go out of date!
As if their pop up hadn''t reminded me many times.
Well, folks as I live and breath, Norton now has an automated thingy that will fix the live update feature.....!
It MAY have been on their turgid website before and I was so irritated that I didn''t find it because I didn''t want to... but ......
so that part of my review has to be changed..... I''m increasing the score from yesterday maybe I was bad mouthing them for no reason...
