A few years ago, I made the idicotic mistake of sticking with Norton AntiVirus. I paid their ridiculous security suite price and thought Norton was a god. Unfortunately, I was a little idiot back then and didn't realize the pain Norton was. Now I am with Sophos AntiVirus and may I tell you that I wouldn't switch back to Norton for anything short of 1 million dollars. During the last year of my experience with Norton, I was harassed over and over again when my computer was being infected and attacked. Hey Elendil, Norton used to say, I found a virus here, here, and here but I can't remove them. Good luck trying! This would infuriate me some much yet I stuck with Norton. I should've cut my losses and jumped to NOD32, McAfee, or Kaspersky, but no, Norton was stick a diety and I had to continue using it. Eventually, I got fed up and began searching for a way out. Thankfully, my dad is a computer scientist at FIU and his university uses Sophos. Since my dad is rather reknowned and respected at FIU, we get Sophos AntiVirus for free on as many machines as we like (though I'm pretty sure this is avaliable to all computer science professors at FIU). In a nutshell, Norton = BAD, BAD, BAD, and VERY BAD. Go for NOD32, Kaspersky, McAfee, or something other than Norton. A list of decent anti-virus programs can be found on the company products page of my website: www.freewebs.com/stopmalware (Unfortunately, this list contains Norton due to one of my friends who still loves it >.<)

I agree with ocelotl1 wholeheartedly! As a former Norton A/V user, Don''t Do It! Not only do viruses target Norton products specifically, but plenty are well capable of doing so and can cause permanent damage to your data and privacy. Not to mention, the severe performance hit you take by installing their bloated products. I stopped recommending Norton products back in early 2003, and haven''t looked back since. I''m more than happy (and secure) with various free tools available from AVG, MicroWorld/Kaspersky, Sunbelt, Lavasoft, and Spybot S&D.

Oh yeah, and if you still use MSIE, you can still get FREE scans from Symantec here anyway.

In regards to Norton AV/NIS/Symantec products. My advice as a former Norton Internet Security owner is... NOOOOOOOOOO!!! DONT DO IT!!! Read all the reviews on Castle Cops concerning their products and I assure you the negative reviews are far more accurate and outweigh the positive reviews. Remember, just say NO to NOrton...
