I give D-Link in general, and specifically the DI-524 a very poor rating. Here's why: If you set up a system, and spend a lot of time geting it tweaked just right, DO NOT EVER update the firmware. I did just that, and have had extreme problems ever since. Even though I saved my setup, I could not import the setup into the since D-Link does NOT program their firmware upgrades to accept prior setups. This was confirmed after spending 4+ hours, countless re-calls, having a replacement system sent to me, and being hung up on by personnel. Add to that the fact that you must get through a bunch of people who can't solve your problem in order to FINALLY get to someone who can tell you that there is no fix for your problem.
Thoroughly dismayed and disgusted with D-Link. I am a convert to Linksys or another brand as soon as I can!

I still cannot get security onto my system the way it should work!

These people are sellers to the masses and as long as you use the stuff without any of the bells and whistles it is supposed be capable of (in other words, leave your system vulnerable), you will be fine. They DO NOT support their product.

I have used dlink for quite a while and I am very pleased with it.
I have also flashed it a few times to upgrade with no problem at all.

The only bad thing I had, was to find a driver ( wireless card) for an old win98 computer. Could not find any in america but found one ,oddly on the german site.

solid has a rock......

I truly cannot agree. Linksys gave me problems from Day 1. I returned it and got D-Link. I''ve stayed with DL ever since.

Their support has always been A1, precise and always got me the correct answers.

Never had a problem with updating firmware.

Linksys isn''t all that either. I was unfortunate enough to be saddled with a wrt54g V5. To save a few cents, Linksys reduced the flash memory from 16 mb in the versions 1- 4 to 8 mb in versions 5 - 7, and moved from the opensource firmwares (linux based) to VXworks proprietary firmware.

It sucked a$$ as it was always disconnecting from the net and forget about bit torrenting or gaming. I ended up with a 60 brick that I couldn''t give away on ebay. Just google wrt54g v5 to see how many people agree with me.

Anyway, you should try Buffalo Technology. They make solid products that, so far, deliver everthing they promise.

cheers.

D-Link seems to be a higher profit item than Linksys. Fry''s frequently has sales with big stacks of D-Link product. When they have Linksys on sale there is only a few, and you have to dig for the right model.

Linksys is a few dollars more expensive, but well worth it.
