Avast is very glitchy and uninstalling is like pulling hens teeth. You have to be an expert to remove everything from the sys. reg. I do like the console and it finds viruses but hangs up a lot. I gave up and finally removed all the components and installed AVG. While not perfect AVG has them beat. Work on it Avast and I may try it again at some future date.

Avast is very glitchy and uninstalling is like pulling hens teeth Mmm... never had a problem getting rid of it, and I install it on a lot of different computers which have had their antivirus compromised. I let it clean up after Norton gets burned, after McAfee gives up, and Panda gets confused. Then I uninstall it and put the customer''s AV back on their computer --- no complaints from them. Their machine is working well again, and I sell my services.

it finds viruses but hangs up a lot. No, it''s just cleaning up. It has never hung up on me in the last three years . . . except when cleaning up a nasty HDD. Just wait a little while, patience is the word.

First used it when the former network admin insisted that Norton was working properly and nothing could possibly be infecting my machine. Found 3 worms on my PC along with a couple of trojans --- all of which Norton said didn''t exist. Cleaned my machine with Avast, no more problems . . . in 2002.

I tried Avast! as of recently, it''s OK. While I''ve seen much better products from Grisoft and McAfee, this program meets the needs of just an average home user looking to browse and send email.

Most home users are turned off by AntiVirus and lots of computer software because they think it''s complicated and boring, but at least this program provides plenty of sounds and styles to help keep the user entertained.

Overall it''s decent

My Score:

I''ve found Avast to be quite stable when run on AMD processors. I turn all the settings up; high resident protection, through scan and full automatic updates. I''ve run it on several computers and it''s been stable in my experience. I usually have at least 128MB RAM. I run manual scans and that slows things down a bit, but it''s a small price to pay as it does seem to catch viruses, trojans and worms.
