Blue Frog was a great idea. They showed us that we can bring pain to the spammers. But they could not keep up the pressure. They weren’t ready for war.

We are software consultants with the knowledge to design the project but insufficient resources to see it to completion. We know how this can be done, but we need help. We believe there are a lot of bright, talented and pissed off people that would like to be involved.

Our approach: An open source Blue Frog replacement based on P2P technology. No centralized reporting server. No website. Any single point of failure could be switched out on the fly. The entire project would exist in P2P-space. No single node becomes more important than the rest. Simply give your spam to the client, and it goes out on the network where it is processed. Control of the client would be through PGP commands sent to each client for coordinated opt-out requests. A voting mechanism will prevent any single node from having control over the network.

The rules of engagement would be the same as Blue Frog. One spam equals one opt-out request. No DDOS. We use bandwidth throttling sufficiently low to not overwhelm the site. It proved effective before. We see no need to change this. All actions will be approved by a steering committee.

It is a complicated project but we think it is doable if we can find the right talent. The first task is to establish a reliable method for the communication of ideas and code between interested individuals. A Sourceforge project under the name ‘Okopipi’ is pending approval, but we have concerns that it might become the target of DDOS attacks. Suggestions are welcomed.

If the good people of this site would allow us to use this forum for initial communications until we find a more permanent home, it would be much appreciated.

Great idea I wish you luck, all I can contribute is a small amount of cash.

After receiving hundreds of Joe jobs I suggest you don't follow BlueFrog’s idea of having a do not SPAM list. The system needs to prevent the user from being identifiable and possibly the ISP, as a small ISP couldn't cope with a counter attack from a Spammer.

If Castlecops don't want to host the forum, create one in Google groups. They should be able to cope with a DDOS.

If it works, and it remains legal, you will forever be known as the heros of the Internet.

I will reserve judgement on your project for now but I must give you credit for naming it after a poisonous blue frog.

Please tell me that you are serious that it can be done, and that it would work in the manner you describe. My Frog never got a chance to do any work, because I signed up after the First Wave hit.

You get my vote, too. Whether it works in the long run or not, it's better than sitting on our thumbs and talking about the price of bread.

Although I cannot offer much in the way of tech support, I would be willing to pay a subscription fee to get the Blue Frog service.

I would like to offer my humble skills to your project. I can write and proofread documentation, as well as write up press releases and other things. It's not much, I know, but I hope that it'll help a little bit.

Wow that's a great idea! Unfortunately I have no tech skills to offer But I'm looking forward to that project and hope it will be realized.

You have my support as well, probably won't be much help on the programming side though.

Blue Frog was already open source. The code appears to have been taken down. Does anyone have a copy or can we get the source? Obviously some adjustments need to be made, but it's a good start.
