Fellow members of the community
As you all know, Blue Security decided to stop its anti-spam service and look for other opportunities to utilize our technology.
Unfortunately, the violent attacks on our site and DNS provider had escalated (see here for details). As a result. we decided to shut down all our web sites to avoid additional attacks that may certainly affect other ISPs and website owners.
At the moment, we have no way to communicate this to our community, apart from talking to the press and using this forum. It saddens us that we cannot continue to update you and other members of the community, but we believe that this is the right thing to do for the sake of a more peaceful Internet.
Thank you for your support
Eran Aloni

It has been my pleasure to have seen your small company bring so many diverse individuals into a community. Fred will be missed, but the rest of you will always find an open door where his supporters gather.
Good Luck in all future ventures.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate you and the way you waged this fight. You have my moral support in having closed down Blue. I posted a rather lengthy (perhaps too lengthy) balance sheet here.
Best regards.

I hope you don't mind, I took the liberty of making this "Sticky" so that those who have been clamoring for you to make an appearance won't miss it. |
And thank you for doing that, Mystified - I only wish it had been done yesterday.. I'm one of those who don't resent what Blue Security has felt obliged to do as a result of the Mad Russian's (no, sorry, that was Rasputin, surely?) activities, but am feeling seriously peeved that I had to find out about it all from a link in these forums to a media announcement by BS, which wasn't confirmed here for a long time after it had been published by the Grauniad online, and which I'd missed on the Blue Community sites because I was continually unable to access them.
My mailbox is now full of more crap than I've ever had and whilst I applaud the idea of Blue Frog, I'm very disappointed at the way its failure was handled. I also find it somewhat sinister that the spammers' war started shortly after MailWasher joined forces with Blue Frog..
All the best,
Conspiracy Theorist Gumrat

Not sinister -- a direct result of the sudden increase in Blue Frog membership. Spammers realized they might have a problem on their hands if people were actually going to utilize the service.

Ah - there's definitely a clear correlation between the two events? Veerrry interesting.. All the more reason that Firetrust/Mailwasher should have made an announcement to their customers..

I guess it's human nature to place blame. Well if anyone is to blame, it's the lowlife slime lovingly referred to as spammers.

I wondered when someone would point the finger at Mailwasher. The connection had struck me.
It seems pretty clear that signing up MW to the cause was at least a catalyst in subsequent events.
Not so much a conspiracy theory as blindingly obvious. _________________ MK

OK lets just take a look at it.
Prior to Firetrust including Blue Frog reporting capabilities into MWP myself and countless thousands of others had never heard of Blue Security.
This Forum was actually a split off discussions in the MailWasher Forums on CC.
Firetrust increased both the knowledge of and use of the Blue Frog system. In doing so Fred began to make headway in the fight to clear our names from Spam lists and attracked the attack of spamming fanatics.
To blame Blue Security or FireTrust is ludicrous.
I did some checking and have found that there was no real spam problem prior to your birth. Hmm I wonder if there could be a connection there.

Depends what you mean by "pointing the finger" at Mailwasher. It certainly wasn't *my* intention to apportion blame for the collapse of Blue Security to Firetrust/Mailwasher, I was interested in what had happened to wind up the spammers to such an extent. "Catalyst" was the word I couldn't find, but which describes exactly what I was trying to get at.
My only gripe against Firetrust/Mailwasher is from the communication point of view - given that they had widely advertised their partnership with Blue Security, I am disappointed that they didn't keep their customers up to date with what had been happening to it over the past couple of weeks. There is presently absolutely no mention of Blue Security on their website and not only have they removed the original announcement of their affiliation with Blue Frog (quite understandable in the circs), they have not announced its demise there, either. PR, really, is what I'm talking about. That's all.

Word!
I will never trust again in a product by bluesecurity.
I also do NOT want to thank bluesecurity for their work, because they left when it becomes a little bit hot. The reasons they told for leaving the path of antispam are imho not the real ones.
(sorry for bad english)
