I think part of the effectiveness of Blue Frog was it was contacting the sponsors, not just the spammers, and it was allied with law enforcement.

How is SpamForce coming along with working with law enforcement agencies in various countries?

At least I had added my spamtrap addresses to Blue Frog's database (if they were going to cooperate with Blue Frog, they ought to be able to wash their list of the spamtraps, too), so those addresses are funneling a cross section of all the abuse Pharmamaster has been sending to Blue Frog members. Given that it was probably not blocked during the DDoS, and doesn't have the hassles involved in SpamCop that would lead to only some spams being reported, it ought to have a pretty thorough database of the botnet.

Interesting point AC! I just had an argument presented to me that not enough spam is reported to the authorities. The point was made that only a very small percentage of users complain about spam so why should the authorities do anything about it? So I agree it would be good to know what happens to spam reported via SpamForce spamtraps.

Speaking of SpamForce spamtraps, mine catches about 50% phish so I've been reporting all those to PIRT. I *know* that all PIRT phish reports are copied to all manner of law enforcement agencies. I've actually tweaked the MWP SpamCop report capability to report to PIRT instead such that it's a simple checkmark setting and the phish is off to PIRT when msgs are processed. Wink
