I've just loaded ME onto an old laptop and it's started to go blank pretty regularly.

I have to press the standby button to put it into hibernate, then press it again to come back on and it's fine...

I've checked power settings and turned them all off but it's still doing it.

Any ideas?

It's a Compaq Armada 1750 and it's never done it before under Win 98SE or Windows XP (which ran far too slow, which is why I've put an older Windows back on).

Cheers.

Name brand machines function best with their preinstalled operating systems . The drivers and hardware that they use are often proprietary and don't work well with standard ones . Then their is the issues with windows me . Reinstalling 98se might also fix the problems .

If I had to guess I would say that your graphics drivers are to blame . Also check to see what happens when you turn your screensaver off .

Go here : http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=drivers and click "start detection" . Install the graphics drivers from the driver list that the search generates .

I think there may be a conflict with my graphics tablet. I've just been running it without it plugged in and there was no problem.

Ho hum.
