|
|
WXPHE, had NAV2005, installed NAV2006. Ran LiveUpdate, one update couldn't be installed, error LU1812. Tried autofix, which implied it was my ZoneAlarm. As recommended, I gave permission to all relevant programs, no help. I unregisterred and reregistered navlucbk.dll in three places. No help. Uninstalled and reinstalled NAV2006, and ran LU, with ZA turned off. Same result.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Did you uninstall NAV 2005 first? New versions of Norton programs are notoriously intolerant of older ones. If Autofix does not work Norton has this to say about it:
| Quote: | | Because the first solution did not work, this indicates that your Norton program is damaged. You will have to uninstall and reinstall your Norton products. |
If NAV2005 is still on your machine you will need to uninstall it too. First, try to uninstall them using Add/Remove programs. If you have problems then use the tool below.
You can get help uninstalling both of them here: Using the Norton Removal Tool.

Hi Worried19
Greetings!!! Appreciate contacting CC!!!
You said while running liveupdate getting an err msg it says LU1812 and one update failed to update the liveupdate give us the complete information when you request for any help? Becoz we have a solutions for all rather uninstalling and reinstalling. I accept uninstalling and reinstalling will fix but it may take our valuable time.
Need Liveupdate failed update(s) which has Red X mark before it. Only if NAV Virus definitions fails, you need to unregister and re-register the NAVLUCBK.DLL.
Also provide the last successfull update date(you can find on the NAV System Status screen which says Virus definitions : mm/dd/yy)
Please give us the full information to serve you better!!!
Regards
Peter

Didn't realize I wasn't registered. Couldn't reply until now, now having registered.
Did uninstall and reinstall, same problem. The only component that doesn't get installed is Symantec Security Software Update. Everything else is up to date.
6/25/2006 was last virus update.

Tried the first:
Symantec Knowledge Base
We're Sorry ...
An error has occurred in the Symantec Knowledge Base.
This error will occur if you try to open a document for a discontinued product.
For discontinued enterprise products, click here.
For discontinued consumer products, click here.
This error can also be due to a temporary problem with our servers. Please try again later.
If you you are trying to access a document from the Symantec Fax-On-Demand system, it is temporarily unavailable.
Tried the second, then ran LU, which failed with same message.
What should I do now?
Thanks!

NAV 2005 Live Update 3.0.166, XP SP2 all updates.
I have had repeated failure to install Symantec Security Software update: Symantec common client (1233.5KB). It downloads OK, the installer bar progresses to the end and stays there, then after a long time (10 to 20 minutes), it reports installation failed. At other times I've had to end it in task manager. I have Common Client Core 103.0.6
All other updates (virus definitions, trusted applications, etc.) install without problems.
I now just ignore (uncheck) that one update. I reckon if my current common client files work, why worry? In any case, I've never had a virus infection, NAV has stopped all that tried (mostly email attachments).

Thanks, JRosenfeld.
I guess that will be my fate also, just hope that everything will go okay.
It doesn't show me which program failed to install, just just that one didn't. So how do you know that it was common client?
This is the message I get:
Downloading Symantec Security Software Update (1 of 1), complete.
Installing Symantec Security Software Update (1 of 1), failed.
LU1812: A program that was part of this update failed when it ran. This update was not applied.
Installation failed, error summary...
LU1806: LiveUpdate downloaded all of the updates you requested, but all of them failed to install. Please try to get the updates at a later time.
I am not getting email notification when there is a reply to this post.

When you run Live update in interactive mode, and it lists the available updates, before clicking next, click the + next to Symantec Security Software update, and underneath (for me) it says Symantec Common Client (1233.5KB).
As I mentioned I have NAV 2005; you have NAV 2006, I think, so we may not be talking about the same update.

It turns out that the program that fails to install is the Symantec Redirector, whatever that is.
I went back to ZA and every Symantec program that I could find I made supertrusted, with all green checks. Still failed. And everytime I run LU like that, ZA adds another Symantec Network Drivers Patch Installer to its program list, making it auto and all question marks, although I am never asked to okay it. Don't you think there is a connection? But then again, it failed even with ZA turned off.

I was having a similar problem with Norton systemworks 2004. Liveupdate would fail with errors LU1806 and 1812, after saying it could not update navlucbk.dll. Eventually I ran this un-registering command, and only this, not the re-register one that was recommended on one site:
regsvr32 /u "C:\program files\norton systemworks\norton antivirus\navlucbk.dll"
And without even re-starting the computer everything went back to normal.

I tried again to install that one update it kept offering (see my earlier posts in this thread). Again, I had to kill LU as it got to the end of the installing bar and just sat there. Then I ran it again: I was not offered that update but a different NAV program update, which installed fine. Now I'm apparently up to date!
No idea what happened. Maybe the update servers finally found the right file for my system
