The "Help and Support" start screen in Safe Mode is of no use to me. It is just annoying beause it takes precious time to let it load and click it off. Is there a means to suppress it?

Hi raffnixpert,
Ah.... How much time do you spend in Safe Mode. I know it a pain but I don't need it that often so I can't help but wonder how often you boot up to it that it bothers you so much.

I had al lot of malware worries lately. So I did many things in the Safe Mode like scan disk, disabling system restore, finding and deleting suspected dangerous files. The fight against malware included also wiping the partition concerned and installing Windows ME anew. After reinstalling WinME I wanted to install some thirty application programs and since I am rather uncertain whether to reboot or not after a completed installation process I am in the habit of rebooting after each terminated prog setup, be it a big or a small one.
You will certainly agree that the time this takes really matters, all the more so as your family, which disapproves and makes fun of your long computer sessions once you are dealing with malware, will increase your own impatience. So I think rebooting from Safe Mode is much shorter than from full Windows. And in this situation (which hopefully would not occur too often), the time you have to wait for the Help and Support screen to build up appears endless. So, Is there a means to suppress it in the registry?

I don't have a copy of Windows ME. In '98 I just get the screen telling that that it is coming up in "Safe Mode", just like in XP. I don't have a "Help and Support" screen. Are you sure that it is windows that is generating this and not another application?
What does the screen say?

I thought I was in a Win ME forum and that somebody like e.g. Bellgamin, who knows the OS thoroughly would have answered that question. ZZ, I am pretty sure that it is ME which is starting Help and Support automatically in the Safe Mode.
But from your evasive answer I take it that you cannot think of a solution to my question. Thank you anyway for trying. Obviously this is really not that interesting.

I know exactly what you are talking about and can confirm this annoying problem in windows ME . If I recall there is a check box on that screen that if you uncheck the help screen never comes back .

It might also be an empty box that you have to put a check in . Its been a while since I have had to go to safe mode on a ME machine .

Unfortunately there is no check box or similar device to de-select the automatic display of the Safe Mode Troubleshooter in WinME.
I just detected the following pertinent MSKB article: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B274155&x=14&y=8
where it reads:
"Safe Mode Troubleshooter is a component of Help and Support. ......
When you start the computer in safe mode, the troubleshooter is displayed automatically. ......
If you do not want to run the troubleshooter, click the Close (X) button in the upper-right corner to close the troubleshooter."
Unfortunately there is no hint as to how prevent the automatic display of the troubleshooter. But perhaps one of the CastleCops ME experts knows a solution?

My apologies, Raffnixpert. I do not have a copy of Me. Most of the people that I know and work with, either stuck with Windows 98SE or moved to XP ASAP reather than work with the less stable ME. I have only seen ME in safe mode a couple of times and didn't remember what you are talking about.
I was not trying to be evasive. I didn't have enought information to understand the problem. It was my ignorance of ME that was showing.

I've had Windows Me for 5 years and have never come across a way of stopping that. I've just had a look at a few sites with registry hacks and cannot see any hack for turning off the Help and Support center in safe mode.
