|
|
Hi,
One of my computers running Window 98SE is adding a Grisoft "Out-of-date" message to the bottom of all outgoing email messages even though I did not install the Email Scanner on that machine (and this can be verified by going to the AVG control center).
The email program is Eudora. This starting happening after choosing all components for an AGV update a while back.
Does anyone here know how to turn this behavior off (like a file to delete or a registry entry to tweak)? I can't do this through the AVG Control Center, since this properly shows that the Email Scanner is NOT installed.
Thanks

Hello jc,
From your description it appears that even though you didn't install the AVG E-mail message client and don't want to use it, it somehow got installed.

It's not clear from your description exactly what is out-of-date; it's important that you keep your program and av definitions up-to-date even if you don't use the E-mail message scanning capability.

We don't encourage bypassing or disabling computer security features. Since E-mail messages are a major source of computer contamination, we would encourage you to reinstall AVG so that you would have available a fully functional AVG E-mail message scanning capability. You could then deactivate the scanning certification. There are, however, other ways that you can scan your E-mail messages without using the AVG E-mail message scanner.
The only way that the AVG E-mail message client scan scan your outgoing E-mail messages is if your E-mail message client (Eudora) is configured to use AVG. The simplest thing to do would be to make sure that your E-mail message client (Eudora) is configured to not use AVG for outgoing E-mail message scanning. Also go to msconfig and your E-mail message client to make sure that the AVG E-mail message scanner is not automatically starting.

You could also navigate to your AVG folder and clcik setup.exe.This will check your AVG installation status and then give options to add or remove components (id choose that one) or to repair an installation or to uninstal.I believe upon installation it shows email plugin and out look plugin.Eudora is part of the outlook plugin i believe so you would have to remove that plugin as well as email plugin if you dont want any mail scanning.
