How To Join A BOINC Project
|
To join any of the BOINC projects you can use either of the following methods.
Method I
1. Go to BOINC and download, install, and run the BOINC Manager software appropriate for you Operating System.
2. When requested, enter the URL of the project you wish to join which you can copy and paste from your browser window.
3. When requested, enter your email address and a password of your choosing.
4. BOINC will then open a web page allowing you to set other account data, such as name, country, and preferences, including joining a Team.
5. You can of course participate in as many of the projects as you wish.
The BOINC Manager provides many Preferences for controlling how the project(s) actually run on your computer. A list of those Preferences and their respective functions can be found here.
Method II
1. You can begin by registering at one of the BOINC Account manager websites such as BOINC Account Manager (BAM!) or GridRepublic.
These Managers greatly facilitate creating and managing your BOINC project accounts, setting preferences, attaching to projects, and joining teams. They are particularly advantageous if you choose to participate in more than one project, because everything can be handled efficiently at a single website.
2. In the case of BAM!, detailed, step by step instructions can be found here.

It is important to recognize that the various research projects are totally independent from one another. Each project provides its own software applications, and each maintains its own servers for the distribution and collection of work units. Thus questions regarding System Requirements and available Clients for any given project need be addressed through the website supporting that project.
For additional information please consult the Computational Matters Forum or visit the Help Desk.
Supported Operating Systems:
Windows 98 and later.
Linux/x86
Mac OS X 10.3 and later.
Additional details can be found at BOINC client system requirements.
