|
|
I just downloaded this firewall. I was previously using Comodo, but I was having trouble with it. It seemed like if I denied any connection attempt from any program whatsoever, using Comodo, it would shut down my internet connection.
So I decided to download and try Sygate. So far I do not have the same issues as I did with Comodo. Using Sygate, I'm able to deny a connection and my internet stays true and strong.
What I'm curious to find out is if the experts here recommend the Sygate firewall or if there are others that are recommended more that I should try instead of Sygate. I'm not opposed to Comodo, but I'm really a novice to all this so a lot of my problems could have to do with the fact that I just don't know how to properly use it.

Hi Stabgotham, The choice of firewall is obviously a personal thing with devotees of each (both paid and free) version. What you use the internet for and the type of surfing you do must play a significant part in how much protection you consider is necessary. I have never used Sygate but I suggest you try the Shields Up tests to see how it performs.

Sygate Firewall: Still Safe? - http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=65868
"Sygate never did fix the bug concerning running a proxy and the loopback address though. In that bug, if using a proxy, Sygate doesn't monitor outbound processes."
I am still using Sygate(an earlier version 5.0 build 1175), and not thru a proxy. So I consider it still a safe firewall to use. Others opinions may differ, but I originally switched from ZoneAlarm to Sygate about seven years ago, and haven't looked back. It has good logging info....easy to access and understand.
