I wondered if anyone knew if there's a virus that can cause AVG to run really slowly? My boyfriend's computer crashed completely last week so that it wouldn't evenb boot up. We managed to boot it with Windows Repair and since then everythnig is working fine except the antivurus. We've been trying to run scans to get it cleaned up but AVG has been running for about 4 days now and has still only scanned 7000 files - it honestly looks like it's gonig to take months to complete one scan!

Does anyone know anything about this issue? We tried to do PandaActive scan instead but that also took hours to download the active x files, and then when it finally went to the scan page and I clicked to scan drive c, it said it couldn't as there was an error. Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, I don't know what's going on!

Some things you can try:

Run disk cleanup, scandisk/error checking and defragment. Reboot.

Disconnect from the internet, all background programs and then run AVG or run AVG in Safe Mode if possible.

You can also try some other anti-malware tools here:

You can also try an online AV scan that uses java instead of ActiveX:

Also, please check in the Task Manager (display processes from all users) if there is only one AVGW.EXE process running. If there are more, you can safely kill them all and then launch the scan again and check if the problem persists
