Hello,
My computer has adopted a new undesirable symptom of who knows what? ...lol. Lately (past month) every time I boot up or restart my win98 it dispays the following window:missing shortcut "wcomschd.exe" and I am at a loss short of doing a quick restore as to how to remedy
this situation. If anyone can offer any suggetions they would be greatly appreciated.........just post your reply accordingly please.

Thanks,

Steve Smith Confused

Hi suchfun07,

Do you have Windows Registry Repair Pro on your system? If so then I recommend you uninstall it through Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Then go to Start, Run, type msconfig and click OK. On the Startup tab uncheck any entries relating to this application. Reboot and see if the error still occurs.

Registry repair or cleaning programs should be used with extreme caution. Let me know how it goes and we can then look at making sure your system and registry is up to scratch.

Download Mike Lin's StartupCPL utility, unzip it and run it. Then go to Start, Control Panel and choose the new 'Startup' entry.

Check through all the tabs, particularly those dealing with registry startups (HKLM and HKCU) and uncheck any stray entries that may be related to WRRP. Anything you disable can easily be re-enabled by checking the box later - the entries are not removed by this process.

I will get my old Win98 box set up tonight to check a few things out. If memory serves correctly, you can go to Control Panel and open Task Scheduler to see if there are any entries in there which may cause the .exe file to run on boot. I will confirm that later tonight and also check out some utilities which may pinpoint the cause (not sure if these run on Win98).

Hi again,

If the suggestions above didn't solve the problem, download StartupList . Unzip it then run it. Go to File, Save as and save the file.

Attach the file (startuplist.txt by default) to your next post.
