I have a software firewall (Trend Micro) and I need a router so I can hook up two computers. I was told that I should get a router with a firewall too. But when I called Trend Micro, they said I should uninstall the Trend Micro firewall if I have the hardware firewall. So do I go buy a router with out a firewall or remove the software firewalls on both computers? or can I run both?

Hi
It is strongly recommended that you run both software and hardware firewall. It is very improbable that they will cause conflicts.
In the eventuality that one of your computer will get infected, your other computer will be protected by its software firewall. _________________ IT Stuff

I would like to second YoungGun's reccommendations. It is not so much a question of using a hardware or software firewall. Each type has their strengths and weaknesses. One type is not better than the other. Using both types strengthens your overall security.

A NAT router with SPI protection in front of your software firewall provides excellent protection against unsolicited inbound connections to your PC.
A good software firewall is still recommended for controlling/detecting outbound connection attempts by your applications - or possibly by malware infections - from your PC. The NAT router is absolutely useless in this regard, since it will allow any inbound traffic response from any outbound request - even if that request is sent by trojan/malware infection.
Hope this helps!

Try OnlineArmor v2. There is a free version you can download. The paid version adds more features but the basic firewall and HIPS engines are identical.

Thankyou just about to install it. Is the protection as good as Comondo and other big named ones?

My personal option is that OnlineArmor is better. You have better support forums plus I think it runs faster. Now I can't run it just yet but I'm waiting for a beta for vista

I have been using Online Armor free version 2 and it's always been a trouble-free program for me. It's a good choice.

I've been using Online Armor for a while now, and I like it and have found that it has worked very well for me.
As for the protection....take a look at this link:
http://www.matousec.com/projects/windows-personal-firewall-analysis/leak-tests-results.php
Scroll down the page a bit and view the Leak-tests results. The tests were conducted with each firewall's "Default" settings (out of the box). The green check marks indicate that the firewall passed the test.
And as you can see from the Firewalls' ratings list....Online Armor passed ALL tests....and was only one of two firewalls to achieve this 100% (Outpost was the other).

I am severely "tech-challenged"; I have the free version of Online Armor, and it's so easy to use it's a pleasure. BUT one of my anti-malware programs detected two files which turned out to be OA's certification problems. If you come across drivers/OADrivers.sys and drivers/OAnet.sys, don't remove/quarantine them. _________________ The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.
