You don't profess to be a rocket scientist, but you know a spam when you see one. Maybe you know what an ISP and a doman name registrar is, and you can recognize the spam "brands" - like fake pharmacies, fake watches, pirated software, and so on. When you really get stuck, you know how to ask for help, or even to read the manual. But most of all, you are sick of spam, and you'd like to see the spammers put behind bars.
You are precisely the sort of person we are looking for.
Spare a few hours a week picking spams out of the reporting queue. Use the spam reporting tools provided, and send reports off to the ISP, Registrars, and best of all, law enforcement.
You don't get paid, but you do get the enormous satisfaction of knowing each time one of these miscreants gets arrested that you played an important part in that arrest.
To apply, you can reply here, or else send a PM to the coordinator: Tembow

Thank you to those who have applied to handle spam and to make a dent in their "bizness". There is a lot of spam in the queue awaiting our attention. If you would like to spare some time, send me a PM at Tembow and we will take you through the process, train you, and let you make a difference.
The evidence that we are putting together will help put criminals behind the bars where they belong. Join the team!

See the latest blog at http://blog.castlecops.com
We are still recruiting new SIRT handlers.
Request an application by PM to me, and after verification you will receive full training before taking on the challenge of mounting evidence on spammers.

I'd love to become a SIRT handler, but for privacy reasons I can't.
Can you tell me exactly what information is needed to become a SIRT handler, through PM if necessary?

I would like to volunteer some time, as I already spend some time daily addressing spam. I am thinking that time spent with CastleCops will be a more effective solution for my efforts, and accelerate my learning curve.
What would you be expecting in terms of a time committment from me?
The arrogance of spammers is unbelievable, especially when caught ... blaming the victim/target of their spam. Their concept of unsubscribe=verify email address is equally unbelievable. After years of abuse I'm determined to do a bit more than I have. I've only been able to get godaddy to drop a few accts, but the spammers just setup again under a different domain. Greed is what I think is the motivating factor, and it's only via stiff fines or threat of jail time which makes them rethink what they are doing ... maybe ... and that doesn't seem to happen enough .... or doesn't make the media.
Thank you for your attention and consideration

If you are still looking for people to process spam, I'd like to help.
I handle our e-mail system and spam filters at work, and am pretty familiar with spam and reading headers, etc.
I'm also fed up with spammers.

Thanks for volunteering.
Currently I have had to put applications on hold, until Paul or Robin delegates the function to add new handlers into the system to somebody that they can trust with this responsibility.
To date this has not happened.

You can't get added to SIRT right now, but you can sure help! There are sponsors whose spam isn't being pursued, botnets whose ISPs aren't getting reports, registrars not getting bulk reports mailed or posted to the wiki, identity theft victims whose names are appearing on spam domain registrations and who need to be notified, outdated research on the spamwiki (spamtrackers.eu/wiki), hacked websites hosting malware whose owners don't seem to be getting notified by spamcop reports -- there's no shortage of things to do. SIRT is good for documenting things for possible future prosecution, but lots of us are keeping our own data to make available when the need arises.
Looking at headers is useful for spamcop's mission, which is identifying the bots mailing the spam. We tend to concentrate on the ones actually hosting the spamvertised websites, as well as the registrars for those domains and their nameservers.
I'd read some of the posts around here and some of the articles on the spamwiki, do some reporting to registrars using Complainerator, and get a feel for what annoys you most or where you feel your skills fit best. Everyone here is happy to help you find your niche.
