|
|
I tried to delete the Mirar Toolbar by deleting certain files from my registry editor, which I have done before with no problem but this time it did not work and worse yet I cannot run the registry editor anymore. When I try to run it, I got an error message that says: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000096). Click OK to terminate the application. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks for the help!

Hi-
You should have had a backup software designed for Windows XP, with a Backup utility that goes with it.
This site http://www.pcprivacysoftware.com has offered a good deal registry rescue help.

hey Sigfin,
thanks for the link. i haven't d/l anything yet, b/c i have a few questions. maybe you have an answer you'd like to share...i want to run the Registry Rescue, from the link you provided. (is this freeware?)
i would really love to clean up my registry, i like the idea of streamlining it. but i'm uncomfortable running any programs that tinker with it until i'm sure i have a good back up, and that i know how to use it once i have one (in case i need to).
i've backed up my entire system to CD using Genie Back-Up Manager. it was about a month ago. is this good enough? it has a wizard that guides you through the process; all i did was follow it. i assume it will guide me through, in the event i need to use the backups...
i understand it's not good to export the entire registry.
so what i'm getting at is this: what is the best way to back up the registry? and how often should an entire system be backed up, if ever?
Thanks for any thoughts you might have, and again, thanks for the link.
system info: Toshiba Satellite laptop, Win XP Home SP1, 2.2 Intel, 512 Mg

Hi-
Registry Rescue is shareware.
By performing a "System Restore", that should bring back any of your deleted registry keys.
When dealing with maximum safety, some software programs recommend that any time that you edit the registry, you back up the entire registry.
I shall look for Genie in Google.
