I use the avg free edition on my computer.
When it scans, I get the following
kernel32.dll
user32.dll
shell32.dll
ntoskrnl.exe
The last time I had avg fix these my computer didn't run properly so I had to go back and do a system restore.
I really don't under stand if these are necessary or what they do and why avg picks them out as a problem.
Thanks for any information.

Hi longjohn,
Those files are Windows system files and will sometimes get changed as Windows works, especially after Windows updates. This is perfectly normal.
I think you will find the message from AVG is that they have changed rather than that they are infected. If this is not the case then please post back and we can help you clean your system.
It is possible to stop the messages about these files. Open the AVG Test Centre (right click the AVG icon in the system tray and select 'Launch AVG Test Centre') and press F3. As each message about a file change appears, check the box next to 'Do not show this dialog box again', then click 'Confirm Changes'. However, there is really no need - I like to see all the messages to let me know AVG is doing its stuff. _________________ Never stop learning

Hi M2 and longjohn,
I have one victim at another forum who asked for help because their AVG deleted a crucial system file and repair was the only thing that made it work again.
What M2 said is right and it happens most of the time with AVG but if it's flagging them as a virus, you should instruct AVG to ignore it and post details. _________________ Member of UNITE and ASAP since 2006
