Hello...

Just purchased & set up my new recording studio's PC, mfg.'d by ADK Pro Audio. The support geeks at ADK laughed at me when I mentioned I'd been using Norton AV on the old machine...& recommended I go w/ AVG.

So, I did.

1) Now, I eliminated the AVG Control Center from the System Tray. I'm still protected, tho...right?

2) On a more general note...how exactly can I tell if my virus protection IS turned on? [&...I installed the AVG package w/ anti-virus AND anti-malware...so I need to know how to tell if that's on also (when I'm on the internet)].

3) Where does one go in the program to make sure it's applied to the e-mail utility (in my case, Outlook Express 6)?

Thanks,

mark4man

Open the program either from a desktop shortcut, or from Start>All Programs>AVG 7.5 (for example). You will need to open Control Center by clicking on it's button in the GUI (the program's window). Control Center has its own GUI/window where you decide what you want to use.

AFAIK, Control Center needs to on in order for the Realtime monitoring to work.

For further help you can download the User Manuals for AVG products from this page: http://www2.grisoft.com/doc/downloads-documentation/us/crp/0

Paul...

Checked out the manual (as suggested)...& only then did I realize I have to go back & install the Outlook plug-in. Right now, I'm running the default e-mail scanner (which they call the "Personal E-Mail Scanner")...but it ain't Outlook, man (& the manual states that the plug-in is necessary for OE versions 4 & higher).

I wonder if I can throw in the disk & do a repair?

Thanks a million...quite helpful, you are,

mark4man

AVG Control Center does not have to be active for on-access protection. Access to any infected and malicious files is blocked even if CC is not running. However, you will not be notified visually. I would recommend to leave the Control Center on

Office plugin is needed for Microsoft Office Outlook. For OE (or Vista Mail or Thunderbird or any other POP3 client), you have to install the EMS - general mail scanner component. For encrypted connections (using SSL - such as GMail), the setup is more complicated and you should have a look at the FAQ or read the manual.

You can launch the setup and I would recommend using "Add and Remove components" option (the first one).

In general, since you have the full version (AVG AM), you can contact technical support free of charge and they will help you with the setup. They typically respond within two hours to any request that you may have.
