|
|
Hi,
Wondering if anyone can guide me in the right direction as far as what to do with my DVD/cd-rw drive. I am running on an ACER Aspire AST180-UA350B with Windows Home Basic which has been upgraded to Home Premium. Recently my DVD drive has not been responding. Physically it works (opens,closes, spins the disk.) I looked in the control panel/device manager and it is telling me "this device cannot start (code 10). So then when i hit check for solution it says cannot load driver software and doesn't do anything. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanx.

Please follow these instructions carefully:
Open Notepad by clicking on Start, then Run, and entering the word:
Notepad
in the run box. Next tap <Enter>. Open the Notepad Format Menu and uncheck Word Wrap. Then copy and paste the following code in GREEN to Notepad:
| Code: | Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"upperFilters"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"LowerFilters"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"upperFilters"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"LowerFilters"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]

Next, Click on the File Menu, then Save As ... and click on the drop down menu to change the file type to All Files.
Next navigate to your desktop, and enter the file name fix.reg, and click Save.
You should now find a new file on your desktop named fix.reg. Right click on fix.reg and select Merge from the context menu. You will get a warning, agree to the merge, and then a message the file has been merged will immediately pop up.
Then reboot. See if it now works. This fix may not work on Vista, it does on XP, but it won't hurt anything either. _________________ Don't read? Can't learn!

when you go to save the file, you'll get a save as dialog box - in there, change the directory to your desktop directory (usually, in Vista, it is C:\users\{yourloginname}\desktop, but you don't have to type it in - use the drop down menu at the top to select Desktop) and then type in the name fix.reg. _________________ <img src="http://www.castlecops.com/zx/johnlgalt/johnlgalt%20sig.png">

Thanks for this fix, PCBruiser. I found it with Google, and tried it rather than phoning Dell and probably having to send my PC off for a month or so. Much appreciated.
