HI Im hoping someone may have a fix for me or at least let me know if I have a problem
I recently tried to download a trial or free version of Adaware2007 from www.download.com but it failed having left a file called aaw2007.exe on my computer.I tried to download again but it just put another file aaw2007.exe(2) on my comp.
When I try to move alter or delete these files it tells me they cannot be deleted and are being used by another program or person.
I have never had this problem before and am a bit worried incase I have downloaded something I shouldn,t although my antivirus has not spotted it or mentioned these files when scanned.
Is it just a download error and can I remove them somehow?
Thank you for any assistance

Hi BLUECAT and welcome to CastleCops,
Why do you think the download failed? That is a legitimate Adaware file and since the second one was named "2", it means that the first one is there. The site you downloaded from is a reputable site.

Is it listed in your Add/Remove list? Does the program work? If not, what does it say when you try to start it?

Do you have dialup for your internet connection?

What is your OS?

You could use the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility to remove all traces of AA2007 from your system.

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/MSICLEAN.htm

I would then try a fresh install whilst in safe mode. I use file hippo for such downloads.

HI AND THANK YOU BOTH FOR YOUR REPLIES
Iam using windows XP home edition
I already have windows installer clean up but the aaw2007.exe is not listed on it.
properties for aaw2007.exe says the file is only 0bytes.when i try to open it it sys it is not a valid win32 application and if i try to delete it says it is being used by someone or some or program.
That is why i am confused
i have never come up against this prolem before
I am grateful for your time

You could try deleting it from safemode.

Download and install Unlocker. This will add a right click context menu option in Windows Explorer. Navigate to the folder containing the two adaware2007.exe instances.

Right click on each, select "Unlocker" from the context menu, release all locks, and then delete as normal.

THANKS Oldfrog thats brilliant.I have finally got them deleted.
I didnt realise that I had to change the "action"box to DELETE while using the UNLOCKER as it would not work by just unlocking then deleting separately BUT I managed and they are gone now THANKS
It seems a very helpful tool and I think I will keep it handy..
THANKS also to Blacklupine for the fresh Ad-Aware2007 link from www.filehippo.com I have now successfully downloaded Ad-Aware and it is running well
THANKS mrsugg for all your suggestions and help too.
ALL THE BEST TO ALL AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK

Glad that we could help, BLUECAT.

Yes, Unlocker is one of the handiest little utilities around.
