|

Hello. I am not able to visit web sites that use java. So I have it disabled in my browser. but then I can't see most of the site. Would a new graphic card fix the problem? Mine is 4 years old and no new drivers are available for it. I have Nvidia Riva TNT2 model 64 pro. Or perhaps this is not the issue at all. I get a black screen on the java sites and sometimes it flashes off and on time enough for me to click on the X and remove the page. Other times it's just too fast and I have to switch off with the off button. Or the mouse is stuck and the cursor won't move. I'd appreciate any insight. Thanks.

So you need it enabled, not disabled, in your browser and not blocked by some software (firewall etc). And you only enable Java and JavaScript (this not the same like Java) for the sites you trust will not introduce malware to your comp. What OS are you using?

Thank you mister Cudni. But if it is enabled, the screen goes black and sometimes flashes back on momentarily. That is the reason I disabled it. And it is not being blocked by firewall or other software. Thus, I considered it perhaps a graphic card issue, but then again, I am only making a guess. I have xp sp2. And the sites in question are trusted. But they have many "Cute" things that move and stars that sparkle and things of the sort.

it loaded fine, using FF. Do you have latest SunJava installed?
if not, remove old versions(s) via add remove progs and install
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 4

Well, sadly that didn't do it. I turned java back on, went to the site and the screen still goes black. And from time to time flickers on and off. I still don't know if this is indeed a hardware problem or not. But I will keep investigating and see what I come with if anything.

I get the black screen with IE 7 and FF. With Opera, the page simply doesn't load although Java is turned on.

Yes, there are indeed some errors in there, but unfortunately, I have no idea how to interpret them.

Well, next day. Investigating on the java forum, it seems that my problem is indeed with the graphics card. Something to do with disabling anti-aliasing. But I can't figure out how to do that. So seeing that it is 4 years old, I may go for a new graphics card. Unless someone here can come up with an answer for me. Thanks to all.
