Howdy y'all!
I'm going to restart our website and need a freeware ftp program. I know there are several out there. Does anyone think that one is any better than another?
I'm looking at coffeecup, cute, webmaster ftp (this one sets off alarms just because of the grammatical errors in the website the toats it), ftp explorer (any association with mircrosoft?)
Also, we used to use frontpage, but will need to buy another copy if we are to use it again. Are there "better" alternatives? I liked it because it was easy and followed microsoft methods. My wife will buy a mac sometime this year, so it would be nice if what we bought would work with both.
Thansk for any advice that you can give.

Hi CJ,
No recommendations, I'm afraid - I have used Terrapin FTP (paid for) and Namo web editor (free magazine cover disk) for some years.
The only thing I would say is that Frontpage uses it's own proprietary extensions for anything out the ordinary and so your website host must specifically provide support for Frontpage Extensions, else it won't work. I also found FP rather hard going to get anything above a basic page, but that is just my view. _________________ Never stop learning

I use Filezilla for any FTP I do. Many of the hosting services have their own web based publishing so that an FTP client isn't needed.
I haven't looked at Frontpage in a long time, but if you are just doing a fairly straightforward website it ought to work. If there is going to be anything complex, think about Dreamweaver.
As was mentioned above, if the hosting service does not specifically mention Frontpage extentions, they don't support it. Never listen to anybody who says that they can add that, they can't without causing you many interactions while they are learning that there is more to it than running an installation program. _________________ Websplasher website design. Thanks y'all for your answers. I appreciate it. I will look into filezilla and dreamweaver. I think dreamweaver is available here.
Much appreciated.

Howdy y'all!
My apologies for taking so long to respond. It has been a busy summer and spring!
I started using a hosting services that has its own FTP. That program has worked just fine. Before settling on them, however, I had downloaded a freeware version of crystalFTP.
I appreciate the advice and thoughts. The website is up and going. The grandparents are happy. The wife is pleased... and that's important!
Thanks again,
CJ
