I have put two monitors on my GeForce 6600 GT OC and the desktop just gets extended instead of showing monitor 1 & 2. For example my old resolution was 1024 x 768 and after using the video card wizard it is 2048 x 768. So the monitor is extended horizontally but what I would like to have is separate task bars and to be able to fit a window to a specific monitor. Is this possible? I tried downloading MultiMon and UltraMon but they both said that only one monitor was detected.

Hmmm ... maybe a virtual machine running with a termiinal server (e.g. VNC) window taking up the desktop of one of your monitors? It would best be a fairly powerful machine with at least 2GB RAM ... though 4GB would be much better.

Do you think the video card doesn't display the two monitors properly? They are pretty old, like a 17 inch and 15 inch CRT. So maybe it is the monitors? I have the latest driver for vid card so I wasn't sure what to try next.

Ultramon should work - it works just fine here on my Windows Vista Ultimate machine with dual 19" CRTs.
I think the first thing is to make sure that *windows* is detecting you have multiple monitors - in your Display Properties, go to the Advanced Tab, you should see 2 monitors side by side - which ever is your primary monitor (assumed to be the larger) and the secondary beside it (the monitors might be backward, in that you may have primary on left but in the setup it shows primary on right - if so, you'll simply need to reverse your plugs into the back of the Video card, but shut down first just to be safe).
Now, you already said that the OS is showing you an extended desktop on your second monitor, so it is a matter of setting up Ultramon to recognize that there are dual monitors installed, and then configuring the taskbar to match your needs.
BTW, if you are running anything other than Vista, and in XP if you run the spartan Win2000 interface, there is another program that has a lot less functionality of the taskbar on the second monitor - but it works - check out Oscar's Multi-Monitor Taskbar.
