Has anyone used this utility?
I searched the forum and did find a thread about an update.
I am just wondering if anyone eles has used this utility and what their thoughts on it are.

I just ran it and it showed all kinds of stuff I had no idea were on my computer Rolling Eyes

There are getting to be so many utilities out there I really am getting leary of trusting them.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this one.

I use it too. It is a good tool. Remember to keep it updated, so it can keep you updated. Very Happy

I also think it is a useful program. I suggest either printing the report out or saving it to CD or flash drive - if you ever need to reinstall an application (or even Windows itself) then you will find a lot of useful info there.

Please be careful if you post the results from Belarc anywhere - the key codes for many applications are shown in the report.

It tells me I am missing 2 Microsoft Security Updates.
I went to the first one and there are a lot of issues lited with the update. Should I worry about installing it?

I have my updates set to run so don't know why I would be missing any.

Marciej, I bet you are missing 902400 and 914440. I have them missing on my desktop and 914440 missing on my laptop.

I am not too worried about that as I have tried to install them but they just vanish again.

Marceij, here are the links for those missing M$ updates.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914440/en-us

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902400

I also suggest you install Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 2. It does a similar function but is a M$ program.

I replaced "Belarc Advisor" (BA) with "Microsoft Baseline Security Advisor" (MBSA), because MBSA is faster up-to-date than BA regarding Windows patches. You can verify this easily by installing both and you will see the difference.

Hi Erik,

You're comparing apples with oranges. MBSA shows more detailed information regarding the security of your system, Belarc covers hardware and software as well.

As for being quicker, MBSA too 166 seconds on my main system compared to 43 seconds for Belarc.

I would use them both. Smile

I wasn't talking about the response time of both softwares. I was talking about being up-to-date.
According BA I had 0 patches to install, while MBSA reported 2 patches to install, which was correct according Windows Update.
The information regarding security is nothing more than an opinion of BA. If I ask 10 experts how to secure my computer, I will get 10 different answers. Wink

Ah, my apologies - I misread your post.
I agree with you - MBSA is more effective in that respect than Belarc.

In my experience, if you ask 10 experts you will get 12 different replies! Laughing
