OK I am looking for some ideas. I have an HP laptop (running Vista) and HP desktop (running XP) my router is Linksys. I just bought an Iogear MFP print server (GMFPSU01) I have it hooked to my router and Epson CX4200 printer. When running the software for the server it doesn't find the printer... Any suggestions on how to get it to work???

Try to install the printer manually. The print server has a default IP set by the manufacturer usually. Or, it is set by the router. In the later case, you can find the assigned IP by looking in the router's management console via your browser. You should also set the print server to have a fixed IP in your router. If you let the print server's IP be set by DHCP, you may lose your routing to the printer each time you reboot your network.

Once you have the IP assigned to the print server, go to Start/Printers and Faxes, and click on add a printer. The wizard will open. Set the printer as a network printer in the first screen. In the next screen click on the bottom option, Connect to a printer on the Internet ... Then in the URL box enter the IP of the print server, and click on next button, and the wizard should find the print server. Then follow the remaining steps including installing the printer drivers when the wizard asks for it.

Ok I can't find an IP address for either the printer or the scanner. My router doesn't even show that the PS is connected to it.

You will not. That printer is not network ready - it has no network connectivity.

Not all printers can communicate through a network.

Well, that has to happen first. Swap cables - they are cheap - as is quality and price. Try another port on your router too.

You also need to make sure print server's IP is in your Trusted Network for your local firewalls.

UPDATE..... Ok I took it to my work and asked the IT manager to look at it.. The bad news they told me that they think the network port is dead Sad ..... The good news I talked to Iogear tonight and it is still under warranty... So I might be getting a new one to replace it.... Smile
