I'm looking for a keyboard for my PC that feels and sounds like a laptop. I spend at least 8 hours a day typing (it's my job) and can't stand the noise of my standard keyboard.

I've been looking at these:
Logitech diNovo
Macally IceKey
Apple Thin

I don't need all those media keys (email, web, etc) but I DO need to have the F1-12 keys and numeric keypad. I need the keyboard to be quiet, able to fit in a tray, and be the same size and have all the functionality of a standard keyboard. I prefer wired (PS/2) but USB is fine. Wireless is a last resort (can't have lag time and frequent disconnects).

Keyboards are tough to recommend because "touch, feel and layout" are such individualized things. My suggestion is to go to some local shops that sell keyboards, and try a few out in their display. Then probably order on-line.

I can tell you that I really like the keyboard I currently have, the Saitek Eclipse 2. I have no idea whether you would like it or hate it. It is USB wired.

The advantage of such keyboard is it's extremely light and flexible. And it's quiet. Some aren't as sensitive though... you need to press the keys harder.

Can be found in PC accessories shops. Have them to let you have a trial run before buying or it's just wasting money.

Most of them use USB... because they are designed for laptops. You can buy a USB to PS/2 connector if you want to use the PS/2 port instead.

PCBruiser:"I can tell you that I really like the keyboard I currently have, the Saitek Eclipse 2"

I've seen those but haven't been able to find someone that carries them locally so I can try it out first. The backlighting would come in handy for me since I work pre-dawn and late night but I'm not so sure whether or not it's quiet enough for me. I'll keep looking for them...

Those were going to be my first choice but then I read that if you don't hit the keys dead on center, it won't read that you've hit it. Since I do transcription for a living I have to have a keyboard that's very responsive so I don't spend time going back to make corrections.

Sorry, but I need a full size keyboard, preferably a 104-key layout. Minis just won't cut it.

Hummm, I don't know where you are located, but I believe in the US CircuitCity carries them.

I'm in Florida but I live in a rural county that doesn't allow many big businesses to move in. The nearest "tech" store is about 35-40 miles away so I'm going to have to make a day of it and go into the "city". Crying or Very sad

It's nice having all this nature around but it's really inconvenient sometimes. Rolling Eyes

Yup, for some of such keyboards the keys need to be hit on the centre. For some, it's not needed. They are more sensitive.

As mentioned earlier, not all flexible keyboards are sensitive. There are lots of brands and each has their own advantage. You will need to have a test run at the store to test its sensitivity, otherwise you will waste money buying.

Not sure if US tech shops carry foreign brands. If they do, I will recommend LG ST-210 keyboard. It's quiet and comfortable to use. I use this one and like it very much.

Well...made a trip to Best Buy, Office Depot, and Staples.

Hated just about every keyboard I came across. Even the low profile (scissor switch) keyboards were too clicky for me. The only ones that came close was the Razor Lycosa ($100) and the Apple ($49). I was hoping that there would be more keyboard with rubber-like keys to reduce the noise factor but apparently no one has thought of that. I was also hoping they would have an IceKey or DiNovo on display but no-go.

I would have gone with the Apple but looking at the keyboard on display...the keys are white and it would get filthy in no time. The display was disgusting.

And if I'm going to spend $100 on the Lycosa, I'd might as well buy the DiNovo (but I still have to find someone that carries them in display).

Well, at least I know which ones I DON'T want..... Confused
