|
|
Hi All...
Suggestion is for adding "Skip Rest" - you Eudora users know what I am talking about....
For Spam filter: checkbox for "Skip rest", which means "if this filter evaluates to true, ignore the rest of the filters for this tagged item in the list"
I hope this makes sense. I.e., currently how it appears to work is,
when the current item is being processed against the filter list, it is run through each item to the end - every last one of them.
IF you could have the option of setting/tagging a filter so that if any list-item being currently processed against it evaluates to true, then either do or do not continue evaluating this item against the subsequent filter(s)
THEN...
- it could cut down on filtering processing overhead,
AND
- it could give the user greater control over the logic of what's happening.
For instance, maybe I have an item that comes in and evaluates true on rule 3, but may also evaluate true on rule 4, but I only care "if it hits three then apply that filter only".
*I have a number of such situations, and so what I have to do now is carefully position filters and/or avoid scripting them a certain way because I cannot simply tell it - yeah, if this happens, forget the rest, OR option to also continue evaluating.
I have been using MW(P) since the beginning. Thank you for the opportunity to post my suggestions - I hope they are seriously considered. MWP is a terrific product, and I so appreciate the development work that supports it.
Cheers,

MWP currently behaves that way i.e. once a filter match is found, no further filters are processed for that particular msg. A weighting scheme (as proposed several times in the past) would continue filter processing at least until weighting reaches a decision threshold.

Hmmm, I had better check my logic better then, it seemed that recently I was having a problem that suggested this is not the case, i.e., that an evaluation to true causes an item to not be evaluated further against following filters. Maybe my bad?
I wonder, was it always this way? And if not, when did this become implemented. Just so I am clear on this before proceeding, because I do not always upgrade if something is serving me well ...I am currently still at version 5 because I did not observe anything in the release notes to compel me to upgrade past that.
Thanks.

AFAIK, MWP has always operated in the manner I described.
