Hi,
having some troubles with my laptop I tried to restore it with Norton Save and Restore; for this operation its needs to boot from its CD (with a dedicated disk).
However, it fails to boot.
Symantec delivered me a completely fresh iso-file with which I made a new bootable disk; also this one still fails.
From the BIOS the laptop is directed to boot from CD-station.
The odd thing is the CD works perfectly, it reads, it writes and other CDs perform a normal autorun from it.
Any suggestions?

does the laptop boot up normally? in bios, is the hard drive recognised?

When you say you made into a bootable disc, did you simply burn the ISO file to a CD, create a disc from the image, or modify the ISO with boot files to make it bootable? _________________ <img src="http://www.castlecops.com/zx/johnlgalt/johnlgalt%20sig.png">

Hi,
yes the laptop performs a normal boot; the BIOS is properly set to boot from CD-station.
During boot is seems to read the contents of the CD, but does not boot from it.
The present CD from which is should boot was created from a .iso file which was exclusively downloaded from the Symantec site following the instructions gathered during a chat-session with an engineer.
He provided a .zip-file containing a .iso image which was burned to a CD which is specifically meant to reboot the system an allow it to be restored by Norton Save & Restore.
Nor the files nor the CD were modified to make it bootable.

The restoration is meant to solve a problem with a LCD-display that does not seem to communicate with a docking-station .....

What did you use to "burn" the CD? An image file (.iso) can't be made like other CD's. To burn an .iso file, you need to use something like Nero, and do an image burn. If you do a regular burn the CD won't work.
Alternatively, you can grab a free .iso burner here:

Watch the versions, v1 is for doing the burn on an XP SP1 system, v2 for XP SP2, and v3 is for Vista. After you download the file, right click on it, and choose Install from the context menu. That will install the .iso burner. You may need to reboot. After that, navigate to the iso file, right click on it and there will be a new context menu item called something like "Copy file to CD". Use that, and it will correctly burn the .iso file for you.

I think I correctly burned the CD, using Roxio Media Creator 8 (burn image to disc).
Today I will try this CD and let you know if the laptop boots from it.

The CD was tested on another computer and did reboot it.
During one of the attempts to reboot the computer with this CD it enteres a state where Windows, before starting up performed a checkdisk operation.
After, that the laptop rebooted from CD.
Problem solved.
